1:10/lens coding/menu coding

The M8 was released more than three months ago and the lens-coding process is still a mess. Reading the turn-around times thread, it seems that you cannot predict how long Leica will keep a lens -- if they've got the right ring, three weeks. If not, who knows?

I'm going to get all my lenses coded, but we really need a menu-based coding system so we don't have to send our lenses off for some unpredictably long time; there are suggestions in the turn-around thread that if you have a Noctilux or a 21mm, you might not see your lens back for months...

It may be too late to include in 1:10, but Leica would serve its customers well to include a menu-based selection system.

Failing that, Leica should post a notice every couple of weeks with estimates of turn-around times (separately for Solms and the US) for each codable lens. I have four more to get done, but, luckily enough, one is a Nocti and one is a 21. I do not want to pack them off unless I know roughly when I'm going to get them back. If they just don't have rings for some lenses, let us know, so that our lens just doesn't sit on a table for weeks when we could be using it.

Perhaps I am missing the point but wouldn't that require customer awareness and a modicum of intelligence :-}}

I have been told by the German dealer through whom I sent my Elmarit-M 90mm to Solms, that they say it will be turned round in about 14 days . I will believe it when I actually have it back in my hands.
