New Processing Software on the Way

Tell me if I'm wrong, but it seems like there are going to be a lot of new choices in processing software soon.

CS3

Lightroom

Aperture Support for M8

Capture One, new version

M8 1.10

Have I left any out? I didn't mention Raw Developer. I like the few conversions I've done with it, but I want an over editing and organizational workflow. I'm hoping that either Lightroom or Aperture will a really good job with processing, and will be competive image quality wise with C1 and profiles. Too much to ask?

I'm not terribly swift when it comes to processing. I would like to ideally find one program, and commit to it, and really learn it.

But, it seems I should wait until all the above chickens hatch before making a decision.

Do you agree?

Thanks Mitchell

I agree , I would not just settle on anything at the moment. We still have new programs coming on board with support and also new profiles need to be made for the cyan drift and frankly even firmware there could be some improvements in color.

Also some of these programs like Lightroom and Aperture are what I would call full service with cataloging and such. Some folks will want that and some will just want a raw processor only. This is one area for myself that I simply am not married to one program although a big fan of C1 I do like ACR with the M8 and also Raw developer

I just love PhotoMechanic and Photoshop in combination: I suppose I'm "married" to the both of them! (a bigamist at heart)

I'm looking forward to PhotoMechanic's update. PhotoMechanic is such a simple bit of software...it allows you manages images with such little effort. Used it for years at home and at the Newspaper I work for.

Aperture is def my favorite...but does anyone know when the M8 will be supported?

I’m also eagerly waiting for M8 support by Aperture. No, there is no date announced. However I got a mail from Derrick Story, who obviously has some contacs to Apple (http://digitalmedia.oreilly.com/2007/02/13/inside_aperture_podcast-9.html) saying:

"I do believe Apple will add the Leica to Aperture. Just don't know when for sure... you know, that's Apple :)"

I guess next OS X update 10.4.9 will be ready soon - so let’s hope ;)

Best

Holger
