Tiep,

You can have some information here :

http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/film-forum/160651-epson-v700-750-very-good-our.html

and here :

Scanner Review: Epson Perfection V700

I have both V700,V750+ Nikonscan

and with Epson i use ANR Glass which improves the sharpness and contrast by making the negative "flat":

35 mm Anti Newton Ring Glass Insert for Epson Scanners

I use Epsonscan software and also Silverfast supplied with the scanner !

In b&w the Epson is the best compared to Nikonscan

Send me a MP if you need some more information

Good scan !

I use VueScan with my v700; it is excellent software and easy to configure. As for the better Nikon 9000 scanners, I'd suggest that they are only essential if you don't wet print. If you only scan so as to post to the Web, the V700 is more than good enough. YMMV

I do not need anything but Epson scan. But i shoot strictly B&W .

If you think the Epson V700 is not good enough for 35mm i strongly suggest to shoot a roll of Rollei 80S and scan it with glassholders (if necessary). Just to see the effect of a high resolution perfectly flat drying film on scannerresults.

While I accept Vuescan is good software I just hate the interface, so use Silverfast or the Epson Scan software that came with the scanner.

The biggest improvement I made to scanning was to stop using Tri-X and start using HP5 (and FP4) and this stopped curly negatives that the neg holders don't hold flat. I never have been a Tri-X until I die type of person, so it wasn't a great loss. And building on that I got an Anti Newton Ring glass strip that completely flattens the negatives, sitting in the Epson film holder its a breeze to use. Having got all curl out of the negative it is possible to properly access the software, and this is when I stopped using Vuescan and went back to Silverfast for its easier interface and speed.

Yes the Epson V700 is a great scanner. The trays are a little weak but will work. I have upgraded my Silverfast software to the top of the line. I sometime use the HDRi option.

It is much sharper than the Epson 3200 perfection I used to use.. Great for the web and prints.

Is their better, yes but for the money the quality is amazing. I have never used Vuescan but have been working with Silverfast forever.. It has really became a better system.

Is this the "Better Scanning" glass? I didn't realise it would fit the Epson holder. Is it worth getting the BS holders and glass or just the glass for the Epson holder? Please advise as my birthday is imminent!

I'm back home and my computer is better than we have in the office ...

Recently, I developed in my home lab , several b&w films as Kodak TMax400 , Fuji Acros 100 and Ilford FP100 (with Ilfosol S or 3)

I passed in parallel on the Nikonscan (14 bits max) and the EpsonScan (16 bits) all at 3200 and 4800 dpi some nice views ....

Well I think the Epson is better

you can see these photos here:

I also took the abbey with M9 but I am not satisfied with the general rendering (see this link for the M9 picture)

http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/nature-wildlife/196975-visit-vauclair-abbey-med-plants.html

Finally, it's black-white film (with Epsonscan) that is closest to what I see !

Tiep,

To be honest, for this portrait , I prefer the first version : the skin and hair of the lady seem to me more natural :) and also better contrast !

I rarely use SilverFast (which is supplied with the scanner)

I use mostly EpsonScan software ! (look at my tests on the previous link)

Thanks for sharing

For Tiep, I did some tests

in b&w first (in color later) :)

setting "dust off" on ES software and SF software (setting SRD)

- with EpsonScan software

16 bits - 4800 dpi - 50 Mo

- with SilverFast software

16-8 bits - 152 Mo

Digitalis purpurea

R8 Macro Elmar 70mm

Kodak TMax 400 (home development)

Epsonscan V700 + ANR Glass

Your opinion ?

about sharpness and contrast ?

looking at the 2 images

dust removal of EpsonScan software is more effective !

no correction

with SF software (the new version 6.6) + ICE

M7 Summicron 28mm asph Kodak Ektar 100

Epsonscan + ANR Glass

Uncorrected

it confirms what I noticed

not the same color between the two softwares

Hamrick's Vuescan is the standard these days.

The v700's performance with MF is very good. It's not "as" good for 35mm.

+1

Don't bother with anything else, Vuescan is the best and easiest, imho.

You can review a number of scans made with the V700 in my Hasselblad folder at Flickr.
