B&W Posted February 13, 2007 Share #1  Posted February 13, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I do have problem with back focus on my M8  The Leica representative in my country says that might be because my lenses miss the 6 bit coding  Does it make sense?  I find that hard to believe! Advertisement Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 Hi B&W, Take a look here Focus and 6 bit coding. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!

Shootist Posted February 13, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted February 13, 2007 Makes NO sense at all. The rep doesn't know what he/she is talking about. 6bit coding has nothing to do with the focus system.
Englander Posted February 13, 2007 Share #4 Â Posted February 13, 2007 Well, it is not supposed to have anything to do with the focusing system. However, when my 35/1.4 ASPH was returned from coding, it no longer focused properly. I returned it because something was changed--the thickness of the mounting ring? a shim left out?something?--during the coding operation. Â With regard to the question at hand: coding will not enhance focusing and should not change it, either. Â Joe
arthury Posted February 13, 2007 Share #5 Â Posted February 13, 2007 Varying thickness in mount plate used for 6-bit coding? Â Hmmmm .... I wonder if that's what Bill Hollinger was having? Â Â Bill, Â If you are reading this, please let us know if your lenses are 6-bit coded?

I find that hard to believe! Â Without putting to fine a point on it, that leica rep should be taken outside and shot for making such an idiotic comment. Coded or non coded lenses have nothing to do with sharpness. The code is merely a optical marking on the lens which the sensor in the camera can read to identify the lens being used and provide some colour/exposure enhancement to parts of the image to reduce cyan drift or vignetting and record the focal length and lens maximum aperture in the exif info.
