canlogic Posted February 13, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted February 13, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I dropped my M8 at my dealer on Jan 13 for the return to Solms. They shipped it overnight to NJ on the 16th. Yesterday I emailed Leica service to find out the status of my camera and just got a reply. It seems my camera landed in Germany on friday and is only going to repair today. Ten day turn around then at least a week back to me. It seems that NJ held the camera for over two weeks before sending it on. Not what I call service.

xrogers Posted February 13, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted February 13, 2007 I feel your pain, and understand your frustration. The timing of the start of my M8 upgrade is similar to yours, but mine is farther along. Â I sent my M8 two-day to NJ on 1/15 (with "M8" written prominently on all sides of the box). The paperwork from NJ shows it going into their system on 1/18, and according to them, it was sent to Solms in a weekly batch shipment on 1/19. I was able to track the camera at Solms starting on 1/29, and they showed it complete and in shipping on 2/7, exactly ten days later. Three days later, I was unable to track the camera using the Leica website again (hopefully that means it is on its way back). Â I expect your camera missed the 1/19 shipment (perhaps the box wasn't opened quickly enough---I understand they open the boxes marked "8" or "M8" rapidly), costing you a week. I have no idea where the other week went---perhaps the subsequent shipment went out a couple days late, perhaps it took longer clearing customs, most likely both. Â I get the impression that Leica repairs in NJ is really busy right now, between a heavy rush on lens coding (nasty delays there, it is likely to take longer than sending in the M8) and upgrades on the early M8s. I doubt that there's any intentional holding back. Â Hope your camera is fixed extra quick, and comes back soon. Â Clyde Rogers
jamriman Posted February 13, 2007 Share #4 Â Posted February 13, 2007 I was told by Robert Fisk that mine was was shipped yesterday Monday 2/12, so perhaps a batch was sent. Mr. Fisk emailed me on Saturday. Good luck, I know I miss mine also.
gesper Posted February 13, 2007 Share #5 Â Posted February 13, 2007 My experience was that NJ did a great job expediting things from their end, and the biggest hangups I saw were in customs. This is a problem both outbound and inbound.
