Well actually you are both right, but @war was first.  It is (AFAIK) still an hotel (Umaid Bhawan Palace) but also (in a different wing) the residence of the Maharajah. We were lucky enough to attend the Holi festivities laid on by H.M. together with a grand tour of Merangarh Fort so we have a somewhat soft spot for the place!
