Michael Hiles Posted September 13, 2017 Share #2361 Posted September 13, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks Adan - precisely right. In fact I also first saw Evans picture in the excellent Time/Life books. I have a monograph of Evans photographs - they are all wonderful. One day I would hope to see a genuine platinum print of Evans work. And thanks for the compliment - most generous. Your turn.

wlaidlaw Posted September 13, 2017 Share #2363 Posted September 13, 2017 Lakeside palace at Gormenghast? It has a vague Frank Lloyd Wright flavour to it but it is not one of his I recognise. Wilson
pop Posted September 13, 2017 Share #2364 Posted September 13, 2017 ... Gormenghast? ... Thank you, you just made my day. My first impression was "Disneyland", but I like Gormenghast much better.
wlaidlaw Posted September 13, 2017 Share #2365 Posted September 13, 2017 It is rather in the same "gingerbread" style as Eugène Jost used for the Caux Palace in Vaud, Switzerland, which was a hotel, then the European Centre for Moral Rearmament and then a hotel again. I lived near it for a year. Wilson
adan Posted September 14, 2017 Share #2366 Posted September 14, 2017 Frank Lloyd Wright, Gormenghast, Caux and Disneyland are nice guesses - but all incorrect.

adan Posted September 22, 2017 Share #2376 Posted September 22, 2017 (edited) That is correct - your turn to post a picture, nickpick! BTW - the Mountain House was built (or - accreted) between 1869 and 1910 or so. It is quite possible that the owners were influenced by the design of the hotel at Caux, or other Victoriana, as they added new pieces.
