Thanks Adan - precisely right. In fact I also first saw Evans picture in the excellent Time/Life books. I have a monograph of Evans photographs - they are all wonderful. One day I would hope to see a genuine platinum print of Evans work.

It is rather in the same "gingerbread" style as Eugène Jost used for the Caux Palace in Vaud, Switzerland, which was a hotel, then the European Centre for Moral Rearmament and then a hotel again. I lived near it for a year.

That is correct - your turn to post a picture, nickpick!

 

BTW - the Mountain House was built (or - accreted) between 1869 and 1910 or so. It is quite possible that the owners were influenced by the design of the hotel at Caux, or other Victoriana, as they added new pieces.
