KCS Posted August 28, 2011 Share #1 Posted August 28, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I was shooting with my MP this week, and suddenly it jammed. I took off the lens and it was clear what the problem was, or at least the result-- the shutter curtain was folded and slightly dislodged. I'll send it to Leica this week for a repair (it just turned 1 yr old). Is this a common problem? Anyone know what could have caused it? If it's a mechanical failure, I can live with that. If it's user error then I'd like to to know what to do differently since looking at a folded shutter curtain made me feel ill and I would prefer to not have it happen again. I'm now 2 Leicas down as my M9 just went in because the sensor is failing. I'll be finishing up the summer shooting MF... K.
Advertisement Posted August 28, 2011 Posted August 28, 2011 Hi KCS, Take a look here MP jammed. Reason?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
andybarton Posted August 28, 2011 Share #2 Posted August 28, 2011 It will be a mechanical failure. Unless you have been poking things into the shutter box It will come back good as new.
wattsy Posted August 28, 2011 Share #3 Posted August 28, 2011 It might have been caused by a small chip of film. My very first Leica camera (an M6TTL) suffered this fate after only about a fortnight of ownership.
Clearlight Posted September 13, 2011 Share #4 Posted September 13, 2011 I had a similar problem - small piece of film.
honcho Posted September 13, 2011 Share #5 Posted September 13, 2011 It can also happen when loading a new film that has not correctly engaged with the sprocket. Take the film out and reload it. Don't force the wind-on.
KCS Posted September 17, 2011 Author Share #6 Posted September 17, 2011 I recieved the repair estimate. It lists "film chip" as the culprit. I'll have it back good as new in a few weeks. Just in time for Fall shooting. K.
Stealth3kpl Posted September 17, 2011 Share #7 Posted September 17, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) What causes the film to chip? Pete
andybarton Posted September 17, 2011 Share #8 Posted September 17, 2011 Probably in the way that the film is loaded It's important to follow Leica's guide on the base of the camera.
