Hey all,

a first post from me..

Must say I really enjoy my M8 since receiving it 2 weeks back, I'm loving the picture quality and small size, having been a Nikonian for years..

Just one qualm, today I tried to clean the sensor with a visible dust Sensor brush. The m8 freezes when I press the shutter release button after being indicated to do so through the menu.. The camera also then stays on when turned off, so I have to physically remove the battery, which seems to bring it back functioning ok. Now this has occured after 3 attempts, so i have given up in case the camera dies..

has anybody else experienced this?

Are you letting the camera sit for a time after you select Clean Sensor in the menu? If so try to select that option then immediately hit the shutter release.

Also make sure the battery has a full charge, NOT just reading full on the gage on the top of the camera.

Others have had some minor problems and letting the camera sit with it on, make sure you disable the Auto shut off feature, until the battery totally drains then recharge the battery fully and see if that clears it up.

I must say I have not experienced any of the reported problem with my M8 to date, that's not to say I won't And I believe mine is one from the earlier production runs (Based on the serial # if that means anything).

I lived the same situation trying to clean my m8sensor. I've noticed that It didn't work when I tryed to start the process with the cap on the camera. Let me explain you. I took out the lens and I put the cap (trying to have the sensor open shortly) and then I started the process. It didn't work. So first I take out the lens and I leave the camera free and then start the process. I notice as well that if you start de process and your camera is not in horizontal position, can happen the failure again. So I think that the camera should on the table, take out the lens, start the process and open the sensor without moving the camera, and then when the sensor it's open, you can turn the camera and see inside and clean the sensor.

I'm sorry that my english is not so good as I wished. I hope it will be helpfull for you.

Miguel.

I have had this problem too. It only occurs if you wait too long after selecting sensor clean to press the shutter button. If you press the button right away, all is well. Once it happens, the only way to get it to work again is to fully recharge the battery or have a fully recharged spare handy.

Apparently, once the state is triggered it is as if the low battery safety switch has been turned on and it will not allow you to open the shutter for cleaning even after removing it and reinserting it. It will functiona as a camera just fine, but won't go into cleaning mode. Put a fresh battery in, don't wait too long to press the shutter and all is back to normal.

Edit: The position of the camera or whether it has the lens cap on or not doesn't appear to impact it from my tests.

AHA! Speed is of the essence -

All is now well once i click the shutter straight away. Although a minor problem, maybe this issue should be added to a list of revisions for the next firmware upgrade..

Thanks all for the help

David

Now... Well.... after checking it other time, I can assure that all that I said was foolishness. It is incredible as I tried to look for complicated explanations to something with a quite simple explanation.
