woodyspedden Posted February 11, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted February 11, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Given all the fuss about M8's and QC from Solms I thought I would share yet one more horror story. Â I sent back the very rare R35-70 elmarit for fixes to the zoom control and the aperture ring. Almost two months after arriving at Solms I got an estimate of $1185 to replace the aperture ring and zoom control and to do a complete CLA and verifying performance to factory specs. Two months later I finally get the lens back and the aperture ring and zoom control work fine but at f2,8 the image is so soft that it would do justice to a Holga! I have a second copy of this lens which performs properly so I know what the lens should be doing. In my opinion there is no way this lens was checked out after repair or if so there is a technician in Solms who needs serious retraining! So now back to Solms again and wondering how long it will take this time to get it returned. Â Woody Spedden

wparsonsgisnet Posted February 11, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted February 11, 2007 Woody, sorry for the pain and glad you have a backup. Â The good news is that you can post this info on Leica's own site (good for them!) and thereby expect to get a little more attention to the problem. Â I suggest an email to Solms indicating how badly your kilo-buck repair was mangled. See what response you get back. Â Regards,

See what response you get back.  Regards,  Thanks for the advice Bill  I plan to write a very thorough letter to Leica CS when i return the lens to N.J. I am hoping that, at the very least, they will expedite the process of re-repair. I am not holding my breath though as my experience tells me that this lens always stays at Solms for a very long time. There were some folks on earlier threads that found the time at Solms to be ridiculously long. Let's hope though  Woody
