mwilliamsphotography Posted February 10, 2007 Share #1  Posted February 10, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Here's my first crack at it.  Interesting exercise.  Specs: Full frame, 18 meg., Focus confirmation in viewfinder like Contax RX. Dedicated digital R.  Smaller, but with a little wiggle room via a base. Makes it just chunky enough. Red Dot replaced with a focus assist light for the Focus Confirmation in low light.  Film wind crank gone, as well as the rewind. Flatten the area where the film winder was to accomidate LCD and set buttons for exposure compensation and ISO adjust.  Camera will feature variable ISO option like the Pentax does. You choose the shutter speed and aperture you want ... the camera selects the ISO.  More?  Now on to the back area ... 3" LCD at minimum. Rotating like the Epson RD, so you can protect it and not use it to chimp if you want. Welcome, dear visitor! Nikon at first did not have it and has now added it, yet WB does not seem that different. Canon had it on the 1-series, but dropped it and WB seems to be about the same there also, maybe a bit better. I always thought it would help for some shooting situations, but I am not sure. It really does not do much in a studio setting with flash, nor in a theater setting surrounded by darkness. Really do not know how much it truly contributes either way. Just my thoughts on this. I use a Gossen colour temperature meter which mimics what that sensor does and it improves the M8 WB. Leica's WB is poor, they need to do something... Whatever solution, I just want a better AWB, a smaller and more reactive body, a bigger screen and some help with focusing. Â FF and more resolution are a plus but I'm quite happy with the DMR image quality. More dynamic range maybe and less noise at 800 ISO and 1600 ISO... Something like the M8 or better. The big bonus in my view of the DMR, is the sheer quality of the files. I really do believe that the 16bit files delivered by pro MF type backs are really something. Focus confirmation is good enough for most applications. It doesn't require to redesign the lenses. A bigger screen, a new shutter button on the front... and that's all. I still can't believe how many shots I still miss because I forgot to wake up the camera ahead of time. I guess I can use the no-sleep option, but that uses up the battery faster. Which reminds me, larger battery capacity and/or less power consumption would help, too. A battery charger with the capacity to charge 2 batteries sequentially (simultaneous would be even better) like the Canon 1 series would be nice. If Kodak/Leica could take a FF sensor with that pixel pitch, get rid of the AA filter and adjust the microlenses (as on the M8), and find a way to control the noise for use up around ISO 800 - 1600, it could be an absolute wonder for images.  All of the other "refinements" folks are talking about are nice also.  LJ Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

cmb_ Posted February 10, 2007 Share #18  Posted February 10, 2007 Marc  I am hoping that the switch under R-10 is the mirror lock up (mirror pre-release lever in Leica terminology) as on the R-9 and I do not have to go into the menus for this. Although I also like the EV lever on the back I think replacing it with set buttons for exposure compensation and ISO adjust will work fine.  Only one for me please, I'll keep the DMR as backup! The R6 is such a discrete and small camera (if "LEICA" wasn't written boldly in the front, I would bring it everywhere). Â And the silence of the D2 was great.
