albertknappmd Posted February 9, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted February 9, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I just spoke to the people at Leica NJ. They confirmed that the DMR production line is finished and that No more will be made. They also confirmed that they are working on the update and that it should be available "soon". HOWEVER,WHEN I ASKED ABOUT THE R10, they stated that they have no knowledge of one........... Draw your own CONCLUSIONS, friends.

Guest guy_mancuso Posted February 9, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted February 9, 2007 Thanks Albert, I heard there is another firmware update very soon also. The rest about a R10 well no one will talk about that yet and there not supposed too.
patelv Posted February 9, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted February 9, 2007 I love taking pictures with DMR. I am happy with it. In digital world new cameras will keep on coming now from leica, but love for taking pictures with the camera you love will not go away!!! My two cents worth vipul:o
MarkSaperstein Posted February 9, 2007 Share #4 Â Posted February 9, 2007 That is good news about the firmware update, but Leica's idea of "soon" may not be the same as ours. There are things that need to be fixed, but the bugs are not getting in the way of my photos, so I'll just be patient. Like Guy said, they can't say boo about the next model, so no surprise there. I have no doubt that there will be an R10 at some point. --Mark
DaveEP Posted February 9, 2007 Share #5  Posted February 9, 2007 Well, maybe the R10 - when it arrives (maybe anounced at PMA?) - will be enough to make be sell the rest of my Canon gear (1Ds2 and remiaing L glass) and buy an R10. Not looking forward to the extra lot of cash required to buy the glass to go with it though  Trying to get to PMA - will have to see.... may need to get some advice from Guy if I ever go R as well as M. Right now I am a happy M camper

If you know the answer to all the problems that Leica might be experiencing and feel that their management team needs help, you should leave Budapest (if that is where you reside in Hungary) and travel to Solms immediately. carstenw Posted February 9, 2007 Share #8 Â Posted February 9, 2007 One Leica person says they haven't heard of it, another one says soon. Make your own conclusions. Mine is that the first person didn't have access to the same information.

In the case of the DMR, since it is sold out, they certainly aren't going to hurt DMR sales by announcing their future R line plans.
carstenw Posted February 10, 2007 Share #11 Â Posted February 10, 2007 Rob, Leica is sold out, but the dealers are not. I think Leica needs to be nice to the dealers after the 30% deal.

ptomsu Posted February 10, 2007 Share #14 Â Posted February 10, 2007 Well, it is for me more than disappointing, that Leica finishes production of the DMR while they do not have a replacement for the R system digital photography. Â This and the lack of any communication about their future plans for the R system is not helpful, especially if you take the high price level of this system into account. Â Having said that I guess there will be much surprise from Canon soon, there is talks about a new FF 22Mp DSLR, which might come with new high performance glass in order to make optimal use of this immense amount of MP. It should be out on market by September 07. Â If this is really the case then I see the end of the R system pretty close. Why? Because the big asset of Leica was always the superior performance of their glass. If C comes out with a new lens line, then they for sure will have done their homework, making the difference to R glass dissappear and have additionally all their expertise in AF and IS, which Leica at best can start to build up now. Â Who would want to go then with the Leica R system in the future, even if it adds AF and IS? But it will bring negative surprises like with the M8 as well! Â For sure not me :-)) Â Peter
blakley Posted February 10, 2007 Share #15 Â Posted February 10, 2007 Blasko, I'm sure you're much smarter than everyone at Leica. Where do we order the DSLR you make? What's the stock symbol for your company?

As usual. We heard this so many times... So far, the R system survived the lack of A, IS, a late and partial conversion to digital, only a few zooms...  Canon can come with a 22 Mpix Eos body and the best lenses they can build, I guess some of us will stick with the R and that it will survive. marknorton Posted February 10, 2007 Share #18  Posted February 10, 2007 I agree the R has survived lots of ups and downs, but lack of a digital body (if there is a long wait for one now the DMR is history) will be its toughest challenge yet. It will be very interesting to see what, if anything, Leica say at PMA. When I was at Photokina, the R-booth was pretty much deserted and the people there looked a bit glum compared to those manning the M-booth around the corner. C is designing a new lens series and this will outperform all existing 35mm lenses.  Hard to belive that one does not want to open to the future - are you already dead or do you now start to live?  Peter
