Giulio Zanni Posted February 9, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted February 9, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) My M8 and 2 lenses were picked up on 2 January for upgrade and 6-bit coding. I am still waiting to have them back. Apparently, Leica is saying that they are waiting to receive parts necessary for the 6-bit coding. However, the camera should have been upgraded by now. Am I the only one having to wait for so long to have his stuff back? I am start feeling that, since I ordered the M8, I missed almost 8 months of photography: I ordered it on August, got delivered at the end of November, picked up after one month....I know I should have kept other cameras instead of selling them, but the M8 has been a big investment. If not... you should .. talk to them directly! It is known fact that 6 bit coding can take a bit longer while camera fix always is within 2 weeks!  Good luck! I was in the same situation, but I asked them to return the camera and lens(s) separately - I've found them to be really helpful over email, and to respond very quickly - I'm sure if you asked them they would send your camera back ahead of the lenses.  Mine wen't on the 4th, and arrived back on the 30th - the tri-elmar came back yesterday.  They also respond well on the telephone - good luck anyway. Eoin Posted February 9, 2007 Share #4 Â Posted February 9, 2007 Hi Giulio, Â I'm surprised to read Solms still have your M8, you and I sent it in around the same time and I've had mine back for over 2 weeks now. Give them a call or email them asking for the camera to be shipped even if the lenses are not ready. Â BTW what happened to your 28mm?, what are you replacing it with?. xrogers Posted February 9, 2007 Share #5 Â Posted February 9, 2007 Definitely call Leica and see what the holdup is. Â My M8 is in Solms too, sent 1/15 to Leica USA, along with lenses for coding. The camera repair was complete 2/7---I figure two weeks from that day before it'll be back in my hands. The repair time is reasonable, but the shipping time isn't. Â Clyde Rogers --------------------------------------------------- Apologies in advance, but even short bouts of insomnia can have strange consequences. A waiting for your M8 limerick: Â A lad bought a Leica so fine, through lights it would make a bright line, to Solms it did go, returned rather slow, so now he is seventy-nine. Giulio Zanni Posted February 9, 2007 Author Share #6 Â Posted February 9, 2007 It seems that they ship the camera and they are looking for the tracking number.... Â Eoin, since I managed to get a Konica Dual I thought to sell the 28 and get something different, however I had a second thought and ended up keeping it. I am a wide-angle shooter and I have to think how to rationalize my lens line up in terms of focal length/aperture. I guess I need to have my M8 back and click, click, click :-) Â Giulio
photolandscape Posted February 9, 2007 Share #7 Â Posted February 9, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I shipped my M8 to Allendale on the same date--January 2nd. They received it on the 4th. Probably got bundled as one big shipment to Solms with yours and all the rest the following week--I think it arrived in Solms on the 11th or 12th. Tracking software says the repairs were completed and camera shipped 2/7. I have no idea when to expect it here in the U.S. on the West Coast. I've already missed one paying assignment because I sold almost all of my other equipment to make the switch back to Leica. Â Also sent my 90 Elmarit for coding. They apparently kept it in Allendale, did the work, and I got it back on January 25th.
Giulio Zanni Posted February 12, 2007 Author Share #8 Â Posted February 12, 2007 I finally got the camera back on Saturday morning. Now, if I could also have the lenses back I could start using the camera :-) Â Giulio
