All investments are not made for monetary profit fortunately.

Indeed lct, one can invest time in a project/cause for example, but I'm pretty sure the OP is thinking of the value of his lenses and is hoping for a new Leica digital R body which would possibly have the same effect on s/h lens prices as the M8/9 have had on M lenses.

I hate hearing the term 'investment' in relation to photographic equipment.

If the equipment is used to generate income (through photography) the word is used correctly.

Doug you are right, but not 'complete', if you will forgive a little pedantry. ;)

I used to have a policy whereby any new gear had to pay for itself in the first month!! Mostly it did (past tense). I realised, after awhile, that I was gaining a lot of pleasure and relaxation from the gear as well. I rated that investment in my gear as valuable as the financial returns involved. My accountant could never understand my philosophy ....surprise, surprise!

These days, my return is almost totally self indulgent and I consider the return on my substantial investment to be at its peak. Pure philosophy. It can't be measured, thankfully. My accountant died, I survived. Wonder if there is a connection?

I have just gone through the 'alternative' search my considerable 'investment.' I serious looked at the Nikon D700 and Sony A9000. I very nearly went for the Sony, but after putting some films through my R8, decided that whenever I needed SLR stuff, film would do it. Mainly I shoot M gear. So, my daughter got a new Nikon D7000 instead. Arrived a few hours ago. Still charging the battery.

My final opinion re the R lenses. Sony A9000 (FF) + Leitax seems a pretty damned good option.

Leitax point you via their website to a Japanese supplier who supplies a chip to attach the the Leitax adapter to provide focus confirmation for Leica lenses, and maybe others, not sure.

Erm... Leica produced one of the best digital SLR solutions so far made for your R lenses. The DMR.

Do a search here for it.

I'll volunteer some images from the DMR...

(oh, by the way, this was not a Leica lens, it was the 70-210 mm Angenieux zoom, on a R9 with DMR, a great lens!)
