Suffering from man flu, and in need of fresh air, I snapped this yesterday, I know it's got it's faults, please advise how I could have improved the shot, and I will return another day and put your advice into practice.

Nice capture of an interesting place Chris. The light is right on the jetty. Maybe the jetty itself and the rocks beneath it are more interesting than the left side, so try to get more of it in the framework. Visit this place as often as you can, and soon enough, you'll capture the perfect cloud formation.

Azzo has the answer; just move slightly to the left and you'll get a better perspective with a couple more of those posts on the right of the jetty in; should bring a better balance. I would also make the black in the frame really black and get rid of that distracting little highlight at the right edge of the frame. Really pleasant colours and vista.

Hope you feel better soon; rum is more effective than whisky!

Honestly it is! Appleton's Jamaica rum. My sainted mother used to live next door to the Jamaican High Commissioner, lovely bloke called Mr White who had the blackest skin I've ever seen! He gave her a bottle every couple of months (he got them brought in in the diplomatic bags, she didn't drink, so I helped her out ). Try it.

 

Now single malts are much too fine a drink to be used as medicine. Before this thread gets totally hijacked, I'll shift the conversation over to Barnack's.

Many thanks for the tips and advice, but Rum instead of Whisky, Pete, me thinks that Lotus has muddled your head.

 

The photo was taken inside an old derrelict ferry terminus at Aird on the Craignish penninsular looking across the islands of Reisa mhic Phaidean in the foreground and the northern most tip of Jura up near the Gulf of Corryvrekkan the third largest whirlpool in the world, unfortunately just too far away away to photograph.

Lovely light and colors; very good idea. I agree with Ivan to move a touch to the left. Then I'd save it a bit smaller so that disadvantaged people such as myself, with a 15" screen, can veiw the entire thing without having to scroll (580 pixels high is what I use to save images for our site).

Hi Chris! Nice picture! Can you tell me which camera you made it with? I am asking because I have the impression of a rather distinct barrel-type distortion in the window frames. but maybe my screen is cheating me.

Marcus, the camera used was a Leica V-Lux 1
