colorflow Posted February 7, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted February 7, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks again for all your help last time. I am still learning. This time I have played around quite a bit and still not satisfied with the flesh tone. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Here is the link to the DNG and the attached JPG is as shot. Â YouSendIt: The Leader in File Delivery. Â 75 Lux wide open ISO 640. Could have used lower ISO. Â Alan

george + Posted February 7, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted February 7, 2007 Is this any closer? Or further off? Did no editing to the picture, just played with the RAW data.

Guest guy_mancuso Posted February 7, 2007 Share #4 Â Posted February 7, 2007 Just playing. I admit not trying to color balance this to perfection, more what looks nice to me
tomtofa Posted February 7, 2007 Share #5 Â Posted February 7, 2007 A little more red tint, less red saturation in DNG; then -5 each toward magenta and cyan in Hue Adjustment. [/img]

robsteve Posted February 7, 2007 Share #7 Â Posted February 7, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Here is my attempt, using Adobe Camera RAW and choosing the ACR 3.6 defaults rather than embedded. Â There wasn't any problem with the exposure. ACR on auto sets it to -1 stop but then increases the brightness. If you deselect auto corrections, it looks fine, except for the colour balance. Â For colour balance, I used the WB eyedropper to select the white of the eye, which gave 4850 +14 tint. I then decreased the temp to 4750 manually before conversion. Here is what I got. Only Alan could pick the proper skin tone, as he knows what he wants it to look like.

robsteve Posted February 7, 2007 Share #9 Â Posted February 7, 2007 Alan: Â You didn't mention whether you had an IR filter on the lens. Without the filter it can be very difficult to get proper colour.

fotografr Posted February 7, 2007 Share #11 Â Posted February 7, 2007 You're right about the exposure, Rob. I had my auto adjusts unchecked. Â Here's attempt #2, again using CS2.
BillBrittain Posted February 7, 2007 Share #12 Â Posted February 7, 2007 I'll jump in here. Mine looks a lot like Robert's, which is not surpising since I took a similar path. Â Processed in Lightroom. WB is 4350, tint -13. I decreased saturation to -13 moved the "reds" slider to +5, which decreased the magentas. Â It's personal preference, of course. robsteve Posted February 7, 2007 Share #13 Â Posted February 7, 2007 Here it is in Lightroom. Once again, clicked on the white of the right eye to set colour balance, but did not adjust from there. I was using a M8 calibration I had played with a bit when I shot a M8 in Yosemite. I made no adjustment to exposure or contrast. Â The first is with vibrance set to zero, the second vibrance set to -15.
colorflow Posted February 7, 2007 Author Share #14 Â Posted February 7, 2007 Thank you all very very much. No I don't have the IR filter yet. One of the two I am waiting from Leica. I am focusing more on the flesh tone than fidelity of the rest of the colors. Right now my eyeballs are glazed over, will have to get off the screen for a while. Guest guy_mancuso Posted February 7, 2007 Share #15 Â Posted February 7, 2007 Alan . Brents Number 2 version is probably the most accurate in regards to the most correct. You should remember that you have creative license too so you can do what looks better to your eye. Mine was done intentionally to keep it warm, which I like in this subject matter. Really personal preference here.
Eoin Posted February 7, 2007 Share #16 Â Posted February 7, 2007 Ok don't laugh, Â Here are 2 versions run through Aperture as dng's. The first version 2 took white balance from the white teddy bear on the PJ's. The second was white balanced from the rim of the toy box. Std sharpening on both but no other adjustments. Guest guy_mancuso Posted February 8, 2007 Share #18 Â Posted February 8, 2007 Thanks Alan but bouncing around too can make the learning curve slower too so maybe want to get it down to 2 raw processors and learn them as well as you can. This stuff just takes some time to get used to doing , so don't beat yourself up either. This is meant to be fun too
