Decision Time for Lens #2

It would be a great solution to add the the proper amount of IR blocking right to the coating and certainly a way to avoid the glass filter, just wandering if it can be done and if effectively it would work. My guess there is the normal lens coating to begin with than add a another process on top of that makes me wonder. But i am not a enginner either so not sure it is a avenue they can try. Certainly seems like a great idea though.

Just think if this could be done easily and effectively you could send your lenses in and have this done. Just like the coding. A great solution to the glass IR cut filter. We may just opened a BIG can of worms here. LOL

We need a optical engineer here to tell us if we are fishing in the right or wrong pool of water :D

Olof, I'm not sure your quote is from me but rather from Alan, I know I'll use my discount at some stage in the future but on what lens is the $64,000 queation :D

Dont forget you only have 4 month time to use this discount :)

Mark- Sounds like you've decided on a new 75 lux. I also got one used on ebay this week, mint condition, for $1984. It is just an amazing lens as you know. My personal decision, and 2 cents for you, is to go for the 90 APO with the discount.....Peter

Peter, thanks for that, I did decide to go for the 75/1.4 in the end!

Thanks Guy, I'm finding the grip makes a big handling difference when working with the Nocti so I think the same will be true of the 75/1.4. The 90/2's about the same size isn't it?

As for the WATE, I'm interested in looking at whether a smaller filter - or filter glass - can be mounted inside the hood without vignetting on the M8. Spare hoods are available - at a price! - so I can always junk it if it doesn't work. Pointless exercise though if Leica does not include cyan correction in the V1.10 firmware.

OK, it's decision time for the second 30% lens. Had more or less decided on the 75/1.4 but then I thought what about the 90/2 or the second version NOTE. I already have the 75/2, 90/2.8, 90/4 and first version NOTE. Any thoughts or recommendations?

I have a good range of lenses down to 21mm; including the 135/3.4, the APO 90/2, the APO 75/2, ASPH 50 Summilux, the current Nocti, the ASPH 35/2, the ASPH 28/2, and the ASPH 21/2.8. I also have a current Tri-Elmar and a 1950s summicron 1.2. I have the Leica order form sitting on my desk, and I've thought about buying the WATE, but haven't been able to bring myself to do it yet, even with 30 percent off. I basically consider the 50-75 to be the core of my shooting style. What I've been thinking about is...if I'm going to spend $2,400, why not spend it on old legacy lenses which will give me a totally different look. I like what I get with the old Summicron; but I'm having trouble getting it to mount reliably on the M8. (I was focusing it once and it came off in my hand...a disturbing feeling.) So that's a qudestion mark for me on old lenses; next time I'm in LA, I'll probably stop by Samys and try out a bunch of them. I'd like an old Summar if I could get one.

Anyway, Mark, instead of popping for the sale lens, have you thought about collecting a few old timers for a different look? I'd hate to see a guy smearing Vaseline on a new WATE because he got tired of all that sharpness. 8-)

As far as the grip for me it has to be there , but a redesign here is what is needed . I have a great design in my head for this actually. Now just find someone to make it, with a hand strap too. But the leica will do for now.

I would bet 1.10 will have that for the WATE
