So What ? ?

They are enormously wonderful to look at.

I completely agree with daveleo...

maybe some are jealous of both YB & the photographic

opportunities he had, plus of course maybe their photographic awareness & capabilities are

nowhere near as high as they might admit...:)

Thanks for the post Ecaton

Yul Brinner also has a feature in 'Leica: Witness to a Century' by Alessandro Pasi

You are right! I have this book (that I recommend), which calls YB a "great photographer". I completely agree.

Anyone could have made those pictures.

First of all you had to be friend of Jean Cocteau and that's not this simple. Second he was an actor and not a photographer, hence an amateur. I think there are some very fine pictures for an amateur.

Not wishing to be offensive but I would say it is somewhat facile to say anyone could have taken them, I would say He was pretty damn good. In the right place at the right time with some fantastic portraits of some great actors. Look at the shot of the children with the sprinklers to see what is in my mind a great picture. Thanks for posting the link

For me these are great pictures, don't care who took them but they show considerable talent in capturing special moments & special people with no indication of "posing".

The B&W images are stronger I think. But it is a close call.

providing that you have an easy access to the location. That makes a lot different like this one I think.:D Every one didn't made photos like YB in his time. That is why he seems to have captered very special and beautiful images of lovely people. I love them.

Good photographer and of course, location & access to certain subjects help.

It's not any different than the photographer covering a war and captures something no one else would have been unless they were there.

There is however something a little different in these photos. Yul was able to take advantage of professional lighting on the sets as depicted on a few of the images.

If I was there, I would have done the same thing!

Yul definitely had his compositional skills down.

Even you? I doubt it.

Whilst none of the images are technically flawless, they represent an interesting retrospective glimpse of an interesting man's day to day life in the company of his friends, his colleagues and those he was related to.

A fascinating selection of images.

Fantastic link!

I love the "Vanessa Redgrave with her daughters, Natasha and Joely Richardson, Cannes, 1968" picture very much.
