Can anyone answer the following questions about SD card specifications on the Leica Digilux 1?

1) What is the SD write-speed of the Leica Digilux 1?

2) What is the maximum size of SD card that the Leica Digilux 1 will accept?

2) To what specification does the Leica Digilux 1 adhere: 1.01, 1.1 or 2.0?

Many Thanks, Mooey

PS Is anyone else out there still using a Digilux 1?

1. Approximate writing times of a 10MB Tiff pic in the camera:

64 MB Leica SD card: 32 seconds

128 MB I-O Data SD card: 42 seconds

256 MB Leica SD card: 17 seconds

256 MB Sandisk Ultra II SD card: 8 seconds

512 MB Hagiwara SD card: 11 seconds

1 GB Sandisk Ultra II SD card : 6-7 seconds

1 GB Sandisk Extreme III SD card : 6-7 seconds

2 GB Transcend 150x SD card : 6-7 seconds

2. 2 GB OK; i did not try 4 GB.

3. Don't know those specs sorry.

I still use the D1 for portrait and landscape when i cannot bring the R-D1.

Thanks for your reply lct.

I just bought a 1GB SanDisk Ultra II SD (with USB) and I measured the TIFF write time as just under 8 seconds. The SanDisk Ultra II has a speed of 66x. It's interesting to note that your x150 Transcend card makes no difference to the write speed. It looks like the D1 maxes out at x66. This should mean that the D1 has a write time of 10MB/sec, which may well be true, but this is probably slowed by the D1s processor. Having done some further research I think the D1 adheres to v1.01 of the SD specification, which means the maximum card size is 2GB. Additionally Leica have told me 2GB is the largest card the D1 will accept.

I still use my D1 for reportage stuff where the client only needs small reproductions and there is likely to be a fair amount of natural light (to avoid the D1's low light noise issues).

Cheers, Mooey
