sparkie Posted February 5, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted February 5, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just curious to see how many have got a second M8, (or more)
sparkie Posted February 5, 2007 Author Share #2 Â Posted February 5, 2007 I would LIKE to have a 2nd M8, but I'm not sure I could justify it. I already have several film M's so I do have back up cameras. It would be nice though to have a 2nd M8 to shoot completely digitally as well as shooting with a different focal lenght without swapping lenses. I'm not sure if I can hold out for an M9 as I reckon its a good year or two away. so I am considering it, and I'm sure others are in the same boat. Would like to hear your thoughts/rationalisation for buying a second body.. I figure if I sold my film M cameras I could get another M8, but I'm not so sure thats the right thing to do. tom0511 Posted February 5, 2007 Share #6 Â Posted February 5, 2007 If I was a pro I would get a 2nd M8. As a hobby shooter I would enjoy to add a chrome M8 to the black and have a backup, but I dont need. Also still have my rd1. So I decided to stay with one, and maybe in 5 years a M9 will be added. Mark D Posted February 5, 2007 Share #9 Â Posted February 5, 2007 My plan is to get rid of my M7 and rd-1 and get a second M8. I have a chrome now and will get a black one.

Wish I had it in my hands right now. My first one had to go back to Solms for update. I can't live without a M8s for six weeks. O.K.; $4795 for second body. Not a real issue right!  Love Leicas Woody
Guest guy_mancuso Posted February 6, 2007 Share #13 Â Posted February 6, 2007 I have 2 bodies and i do like having it for several reasons besides a back up. I put one on my shoulder and the other in my hand in a hand grip rig I made and I shot all day like this today doing a event. This also let's me leave the DMR home and it is a joy to have less bulk and weight on a 12 hour shoot which i have been booked for the next two weeks like this , so it is a pleasure having two for many reasons. rvaubel Posted February 6, 2007 Share #14 Â Posted February 6, 2007 I have an RD1 for my backup. Although the M8 has an infinitely better viewfinder/rangefinder and is a better camera in general, I still like the RD1 better ergometrically. Maybe it's that retro dial and that silent shutter winder. Â I would spring for a second M body when they figure out how to deal with the IR issue better than with filters. Meanwhile until the M9 comes out, its an M8 and an RD1 for me. Â Rex

mwilliamsphotography Posted February 6, 2007 Share #19  Posted February 6, 2007 Waiting for second M8 to use for weddings.  Waiting for 2nd one before sending 1st one to Germany for "upgrades".  Waiting for IR filters from Leica  Waiting for 30% discount lens from Leica.  Waiting for M8 firmware upgrades from Leica.  Waiting for DMR firmware fix from Leica.  Will be waiting for the 1st M8 after sending it in.  Start waiting for the next M digital ( cycle of life ).    Having the patience that comes with age .... priceless ! kidigital Posted February 6, 2007 Share #20 Â Posted February 6, 2007 I sprung for a second while the first makes its way back to Solms. We'll see if I have the heart to send the second one packing when the first returns in a few weeks. How can I possibly pick the black body over the chrome or the the chrome body over the black?
