dannirr Posted February 5, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted February 5, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi all, Â Although I've made many, many photographs with my M8s, I had printed nothing until last night. So, I sat down to make the best print I could from a raw file I shot a week or so ago in Florida. Â I used PS3, Camera Raw and an Epson 7800. Printed at 240dpi, 22inches long by about 16 inches wide. Not extensive processing, some sharpening. WATE at 18 mm. Â Print is superb. Sharp. Excellent tonal gradation. No banding. Subtle shadows. Â For me, prints are the ultimate test as they are my ultimate goal. I am very, very happy with the M8's and WATE's performance. jonoslack Posted February 5, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted February 5, 2007 I want my WATE Hi there - the prints are great aren't they - whether or not they come from a WATE - I've ordered one, but it seems I must wait "2-3 months" due to "unexpected demand". Â Glad you're pleased - I'm pleased as well!

Asher Kelman Posted February 5, 2007 Share #4  Posted February 5, 2007 Hi all, Although I've made many, many photographs with my M8s, I had printed nothing until last night. So, I sat down to make the best print I could from a raw file I shot a week or so ago in Florida.  I used PS3, Camera Raw and an Epson 7800. Printed at 240dpi, 22inches long by about 16 inches wide. Not extensive processing, some sharpening. WATE at 18 mm.  Print is superb. Sharp. Excellent tonal gradation. No banding. Subtle shadows.  For me, prints are the ultimate test as they are my ultimate goal. I am very, very happy with the M8's and WATE's performance.  Danni  At first Dani I was totally flummexed as to what a WATE was and that it was 16mm. Then I finally figured out it was the wonderful 16-18-21mm Tri-Elmar, a real zoom lens.  This is exciting since the lens M8 combo makes a superb and light landscape camera.  One lens more and people too.  I was surprised that the 28mm Summicron makes a very good street lens, as with the 1.6 factor it works as 46.8mm. This also is perfect for a table of 10 people at a wedding.  I'd like to know how large you can print your files to be viewd at 4 feet.  Could you take a portion and do some tests?  Asher  The Open Photography Forums Initiative
marknorton Posted February 5, 2007 Share #5 Â Posted February 5, 2007 Crop factor is 1.33 not 1.6, so 28mm equates to around 37mm EqFov.

I recently enlarged an M8 file using a 7600 printer to 20"x30". I matted and framed it 30"x36" and the client is VERY pleased. The picture is a fog scene without a lot of fine detail, so I admit it is not the ultimate test. It is here: http://www.modernpictorials.com/D216A%2072%20dpi%20.jpg  I have, so far, made several 16"x24" M8 prints with very fine detail, and vibrant color, and the M8 files do it very easily. If I use my 30%, I will get the smaller Leica multi finder. Dave
