First time with M8

It arrived on Friday from Classic Connection, (thank you Sam!) along with a 50mm Lux. This is not only my first experience with an M8, aside from a brief look at Photo East, but also my first time with any Leica. I've wanted one but never thought I would do it until the M8 rolled out. I shoot architecture for a living using Phase One backs (P25 & P45) with a Cambo Wide DS and Schneider Digitar lenses. I only mention that for frame of reference. I spent some time on Saturday shooting around Philadelphia in the bitter cold. The battery held up great, although I only filled a 1GB card. I found the camera very easy to handle, although the aperture ring is very easy to accidentally move wihile focusing with gloves on. The lcd registers daylight images a bit off color. Skies too cyan. I shoot only in RAW so this is a non-issue. I found that once I neared the end of the capacity of the card, the camera failed to work properly. I had maybe 6 frames left on the camera and had put it away, then I found one other thing to shoot and the camera said the card was full, and also said there was no valid image to display. The card was fine when I downloaded it, but now it will not format, so I switched to another one. Aside from those few comments I would say the camera is excellent! I processed everything into b&w using JFI Labs profiles http://www.jfilabs.com/ Anyone else using these? They seem great, giving you the effect of various color filters and strengths. The processed files are amazingly sharp and detailed. I made a 16x20 print that looks wonderful. I used C1 to make a larger file. Take a look at a few images here:

I see now what all of the fuss is about with these Leicas!

Yet another Philly M8 user! I was freezing my way through some Rittenhouse square shots this weekend as well, but didn't see any other red dots around. Had a card issue as well but Guy and others helped me fix that one.

Congrats on the new camera- mine is only a week old as well.

Peter
