gtownby Posted June 6, 2011 Share #1 Â Posted June 6, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I've used my M8 for four years with various lenses, including the 75mm Cron Asph, with no focusing problems whatsoever. With my new M9 the 50mm Cron focuses fine, but when taking head-and-shoulders shots with the 75 Cron wide open, I just couldn't get the eyes sharp. Â Reluctantly, I did the infamous "ruler" test and sure enough, the lens is acceptable on the M8 but shows a serious shift forward on the M9. Will take the camera into my dealer this week, for a likely trip to Leica. Â Both shots focused on the numeral "8" at f2 at 2.5 feet, with a tripod at about a 45 degree angle. First one is the M8, second is the M9.

nggalai Posted June 6, 2011 Share #5  Posted June 6, 2011 Hmm. Don’t get me wrong, no offence meant etc., but you do realise that at 2.5 ft, 75/F2 will have an acceptable area of sharpness of about 0.4 ln on an M9?  This means that even a tiny, tiny maladjustment will produce this result. The M8 isn’t spot-on on the 8 either.  I don’t think anything’s seriously wrong with your setup, but well, re-adjustments are never a bad thing. So go ahead. But stay real when you get the camera back.  Cheerio, -Sascha

Yes, I understand that one can get too involved in such things, but it was only when I wasn't getting satisfactory results in "real world" usage that I pursued it further with the ruler test. (And especially since I've never heard anything about this lens having a reputation for focus shift.)  I'll let the forum know how things turn out. In the meantime, my M8 will see some action again!
