Gerard Posted June 2, 2011 Share #1 Â Posted June 2, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) During some research on my favourite lens, I discovered that the special glass Leica used in its construction required a 10-year annealing process. Now that's a 'F*@% Me Fact' if ever there was one. Â What other Leica FMF's are out there?

Michael Geschlecht Posted June 2, 2011 Share #2 Â Posted June 2, 2011 Hello Darth Vader, Â Could you tell us a little about which lens, what glass type, some specifics about production. Especially the annealing process. Â Would be interesting. Â Best Regards, Â Michael
Gerard Posted June 3, 2011 Author Share #3 Â Posted June 3, 2011 Hey Michael. Â We're going to require someone with far more knowledge than myself to really add detail here, as I've struggled to get to the bottom of the story. But, as I understand it, my early V1 Summilux 75mm uses a glass compound (as used in early Noctilux lenses) made by Rayethon which, after melting the rare powders in a furnace and pouring the resultant molten liquid into blank moulds, the material required a 10-year slow cooling procedure - the detail of which I am unaware of. Would be great to know more on this, for sure.
