R 280/4 APO Telyt- tech question

To go further, Leica actually say to carry the camera/lens combination by a strap attached to the lugs on the lens, and not by the camera strap (in order to avoid strain on the mount).

The real trouble with the eyelets, on this and certain other lenses, is that you need to use a ring to go on the strap since the eye is so small.

I use a black rapid strap with my heavy R lenses so I use a lug that screws into the tripod socket instead of using the eyes on my 180 'Cron. If I am using a monopod, I just throw the rig on my shoulder.

The Modular Telyt system is much easier to mount a strap on as they have full size eyes on the handle and tripod foot. They are also a heck of a lot heavier.

I just use the standard R strap on this lens, though that's really only for lifting and moving about from the bag, since I use this lens exclusively on a tripod. If you are carrying round the neck for an extended period, I would try the R wide strap (14235 I think) which I have on my "travel" R8 + 28-90.

Wide strap, item 14235, is imposible to find, ffordes still lists it but in reality it is not in stock. Placed an order couple of months ago but I was told not in stock anymore.

My solution to the problem is to use 2 mini key rings applied to eyelets and attach wide strap fitted with carabiner type fasteners. I think it is known as Olympus style strap. Mine came with the lens but is reminds me more of a laptop bag strap than camera/lens strap.

Leica strap fasteners are fantastic but regular strap is too narrow for such a heavy lens so I would suggest wider one, matter of taste and preference of course.

I guess I'm a minimalist. I use my hands to carry the heavy lenses, including the modular telyts.

You must have big hands.;)

My concern is the strain on the mount and the habit of grabbing at the body rather than the lens; it's second nature and reminding yourself not to with a moderately large lens, is not always automatic.
