Advertisement Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 Hi Nick De Marco, Take a look here Pretty Girl, Hanoi. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
stuny Posted June 1, 2011 Share #2 Â Posted June 1, 2011 Nick - Â This looks very promising, but it's too small to know for certain. I think you'll find that many of us will not click through so you will not get as many comments as your photos could receive. I encourage you to post larger - Perhaps about double this height. Nick De Marco Posted June 2, 2011 Author Share #3 Â Posted June 2, 2011 Stuart, I must say I find this site the most frustrating on the internet. Just when I got used to posting photos the size I wanted from flickr or pbase some idiot decide to ban that here. It has stopped me using this site for months I was so annoyed. I can't understand why people overlay this forum with silly rules when surely it should allow photographers to share work. Anyway, rant over. I have tried uploading photos on this site direct, which I did for this one, but the consequence is the photos are then stupidly small. Not sure how one is meant to do it. vdb Posted June 2, 2011 Share #4 Â Posted June 2, 2011 Just size it accordingly...no problem on my end. Would really like another view of this frame larger.
Steve Ash Posted June 2, 2011 Share #5  Posted June 2, 2011 Hello Nick.  in Photoshop size the image 900x600 pixels by "save for the Web" and optimize the image for 295kbyte. I usually open the same shot again to do the sharpening at the new size and do "save for the Web" again.  In capture one the forecast size of the image is always smaller than the actual  Regards, Steve
Nick De Marco Posted June 2, 2011 Author Share #6 Â Posted June 2, 2011 I saved it as 1000 pixels one size, and uploaded it on the gallery page in this forum. It comes up OK there, but when I put the link onto the forum page it is tiny. What am I doing wrong? Â Also, any chance of overturning the ridiculous ban on flickr links? stuny Posted June 2, 2011 Share #8  Posted June 2, 2011 Nick -  Forum members visiting the Forum using portable devices, especially away from their home country (and many members do this) pay very high data rates, and large files make this all the worse. Large images (pixel size) throw off the display on all but large monitors. A number of members found a way to get around the file and pixel size rules by downloading directly from Flickr and other similar sites. It got out of hand, spoiling it for people who followed the rules but downloaded images from sites. Consequently, it's turned off. Andreas explained this in a Forum newsletter sent to all members about two months ago.  I just tried clicking to your large image, thinking I'd copy it, resize it and post in on this thread, but I can’t do that from my work PC since they block Facebook. Many companies do the same, so I suspect fewer members will be able to view your most promising image than you hoped. Send a large copy to me (stuart.nordheimer@opco.com) and I'll resize it and edit it into your intial post on this thread.  1000 pixels is too large. Save it so that no side is larger than 960 pixels, and the overall file size is not over 300kb. Then do not link to it. Post it direclty on the Forum. If you are adding a photo to an already exuisting thread, such as this one, once you go into comment mode you'll need to click on the Go Advanced button. Once there scroll down to Manage Attachements, click on it, and then it's very straightforward. However, if you're starting a new thread just scroll down to Manage Attachements, click on it, and then it's very straightforward.
Nick De Marco Posted June 2, 2011 Author Share #9  Posted June 2, 2011 OK thanks very much Stuart  You have helped me figure it out. Here is the pic.  I do beg you guys to reconsider this flickr ban though. I hear what you say about people not wanting to spend money downloading large files, but I often am away and have the same problem. When I can't wait or afford to see such a file I just click on another thread or web page. It's easy. But this site ought to, in my opinion, be more open to photography and not just gear talk, and many serious photographers simply do not have time to upload their photos on a dozen different sites. The ban has made me much less attached to this site, and I think that is sad. It is 2011, so please do reconsider this.  Anyway, some more Hanoi M8 pics (for those who do click on links) here: Hanoi Chic - a set on Flickr Will be added to every day for next few days.  Thanks  Nick Welcome, dear visitor! csg Posted June 3, 2011 Share #13 Â Posted June 3, 2011 Fantastic shot. Everything about it is very nice: her smile, dress, flowers, and barefoot peeking out. But what I like most about this photo is that I'm captivated by the subject and the technique of the photo is invisible.

smgorsch Posted June 3, 2011 Share #15  Posted June 3, 2011 Great subject, nicely rendered & with cute toes!  I, for one, entirely agree with the questioning of these bizarre size restrictions -- makes this site far less interesting. Also, if the rationale for the size restriction is that larger files might inconvenience users, then the ability for "Sponsoring" members to post larger files seems to violate basic precepts of fairness -- "only those who pay may inconvenience others"  Just my little soap box rant  stefan
