djdstone Posted May 27, 2011 Share #1 Â Posted May 27, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) What size lens cap do I need for a Leica Elmar C 4/90? Where can I buy in the UK?
Advertisement Posted May 27, 2011 Posted May 27, 2011 Hi djdstone, Take a look here What lens cap?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
lct Posted May 27, 2011 Share #2  Posted May 27, 2011 The Elmar-C 90/4 was sold with the rubber hood # 12517 and the hood cap # 14191. Otherwise, the Ø 42mm lens cap # 14285 should fit as well as it does on the 'thin' Tele-Elmarit 90/2.8 but i'm not 100% sure of this as i don't own an Elmar-C sorry. sblutter Posted May 27, 2011 Share #3  Posted May 27, 2011 The originals show up once in a while in dealers used misc or caps and hoods categories online  Good luck, they are hard to find  However most E39 caps and hoods fit just fine  PS: I love that lens - enjoy! jaapv Posted May 28, 2011 Share #4 Â Posted May 28, 2011 That is - the 39 click-in caps fit, but not the push-on ones, and any E39 threaded screw-in thing, be it a filter or a lens hood, is prone to destroy the threads, which are subtly different. Heavystar sells a rather well-made series 5.5 to E39 adapter, lenshood and lenscap as a package for very little money.
djdstone Posted May 28, 2011 Author Share #5 Â Posted May 28, 2011 The E39 does seem to be the only solution - but it overhangs and isn't exactly a tight fit? Would I be better with a push on cap?
lct Posted May 28, 2011 Share #6 Â Posted May 28, 2011 The push-on cap # 14285 fits perfectly on Elmar 90/4, Elmarit 90/2.8 v1, Tele-Elmarit 90/2.8, Elmar 135/4, Summicron 50/2 v4, Elmar 50/2.8, Summicron 35/2 v4 and probably many other lenses so i would be much surprised if it doesn't fit on the Elmar-C as well given that all those lenses use 39mm filters (with different threads though). But again i don't own the Elmar-C so take what i say with a pinch of salt.
