Guest henjenn Posted May 23, 2011 Share #1 Â Posted May 23, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello all. I think I just got screwed on a leica r4s purchase. I cant for the life of me get the camera to wind. The lever only goes 1/4 way ...then stops. I hear no action in that 1/4 turn. I dont have a lens yet, I just have the body. I put batteries in it and the meter works. I downloaded the manual and It only shows operations with lens and film. My question is .... should I be able to wind and fire this unit with no lens or film....and if the answer is yes..... how do I do it? Thank you all in advance. wildlightphoto Posted May 23, 2011 Share #2 Â Posted May 23, 2011 ... should I be able to wind and fire this unit with no lens or film... Â Yes. Have you tried pushing the rewind button in and turning the film advance sprockets manually with the back open? I have no idea if this will help but it's what I would try. Â IIRC this happened occasionally with bodies prior to the R4sP (R4s model 2). One of the film advance/shutter cocking parts accessible under the camera's bottom cover was modified for later R bodies to prevent this sort of thing. Guest henjenn Posted May 23, 2011 Share #3 Â Posted May 23, 2011 I just tried what you suggested. Its still locked. Probably not worth sending it to Leica ?????

My next option would be to return it to the seller if possible. Third choice would be to remove the three teensy screws from the bottom cover and gently jigger the levers at the film advance end. I suspect sending it to Leica would not be cost-effective. I might be able to take a photo of what the levers are supposed to look like if I get a break (hah!) from work & chores. jaapv Posted May 23, 2011 Share #6  Posted May 23, 2011 Sending it to Leica might not be a good idea, but consulting one of the many excellent Leica repair persons in the USA could be wise.
earleygallery Posted May 23, 2011 Share #7 Â Posted May 23, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) First off, I would return to the seller for a refund, if you think that's possible (ebay purchase? if you paid by paypal you can make a claim under their scheme also). Â If you can't get a refund then you should take the camera to a local camera repairer (most dealers know someone) and ask for a quote. Â Check the foam seals on older SLR's also - usually in the gaps where the back door sits, the film reminder window etc. They are easy to replace. tobey bilek Posted May 28, 2011 Share #8 Â Posted May 28, 2011 Ebay, yuck. Â Buyers could always get screwed. Now sellers can be screwed by buyers who know nothing and there is nothing they can do about it.
