symmetron Posted May 22, 2011 Share #1 Posted May 22, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have both a DL4 and X1 and am shopping for a viewfinder. It would be nice if the viewfinder worked on both cameras. I understand that the DL4 viewfinder also has lines for 35mm. Is anyone using the DL4 viewfinder on the X1 and if so, how well does it work? Advertisement Posted May 22, 2011 Posted May 22, 2011 Hi symmetron, Take a look here DL4 viewfinder on X1?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
lykaman Posted May 22, 2011 Share #2 Posted May 22, 2011 To be honest I tried the small EVFinders, I found them to small to actually see thro’’ So I went overboard & now use the “Big Daddy”” interchangeable between DL4 & X1.. It makes both cameras “For Me” Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! Solar B Posted May 23, 2011 Share #3 Posted May 23, 2011 Yes indeed the DL4 finder does have lines/frame for 35mm , but the finder is not as large and bright as the X1 finder ... i have looked through both side by side and already use a DL4 finder. symmetron Posted May 23, 2011 Author Share #4 Posted May 23, 2011 Based on your observations, would the DL4 finder work with X1, or is the field of view too limited at 35mm?
Solar B Posted May 23, 2011 Share #5 Posted May 23, 2011 The DL4 finder does work on the X1 given its FOV , but the X1 finder is brighter. Brian
symmetron Posted May 23, 2011 Author Share #6 Posted May 23, 2011 How's the FOV with the DL4 finder? Narrow or ok?

tom0511 Posted May 25, 2011 Share #9 Posted May 25, 2011 I have the dl4 viewfinder and as far as I know it is optically very close if not equal to the Leica M 24mm viewfinder (which costs quite a bit more). I bought it to use it with my 24mm on the M9. I can not see how it would not be bright enough, it is very good. Now if the 35mm frame is too tight or not might be a different story. I dont find it a problem. Personally I have canceled my order for the x1 viewfinder and told myself I would just use the dl4 viewfinder. But then I use the x1 without external viewfinder all the time anyways. I dont know if the AF-position might be indicated in the x1 viewfinder?? lykaman Posted May 26, 2011 Share #11 Posted May 26, 2011 Big Daddy:- Leica Universal Wide-Angle Viewfinder for M System around $800-900.. Not available/on back order..
tom0511 Posted May 28, 2011 Share #12 Posted May 28, 2011 BigDaddy also know as Frankenfinder. Sorry, I could not see a reason to put such a huge VF on a x1.
symmetron Posted May 29, 2011 Author Share #13 Posted May 29, 2011 So I bought the 36mm X1 finder. I've pretty much gotten into using it all the time with the LCD as a a backup. So now it's like the X1 has a built in viewfinder. Somewhat of a surprise as I expected to use it only outside when the LCD was not useable.

Or do you put it on auto shutter and aperture?

A wise decision as it is better than the DL4 one ... i use finder and screen ... infact i "chimp" (i believe this is the term) a lot and have 2 batteries. symmetron Posted May 29, 2011 Author Share #16 Posted May 29, 2011 I don't use the histogram...I guess I should, but I'm too lazy and feel I'm getting a feel for the metering on the X1. I usually shoot aperture preferred.
