New Leica/Rangefinder Info Site - La Vida Leica!

So I finally have enough content up to mention it here...

Let me preface this by saying that it's not a personal blog (though there's a blog section) and it's not a commercial site or a portfolio. I'd like to think of it as an information site, with reviews, articles, and general news as well as feeds from other related sites. It covers "the M system" be it Leica, Zeiss, Voigtländer, etc.

I'm not sure why, but the name popped into my head last Friday. A quick check with my registrar confirmed that the domain was available and I jumped on it. Set up the virtual host on my web server, put on my CMS of choice and got the framework of the site up, along with customizations over the weekend. I've been writing articles and reviews like a wild man since... And still going. I'm basically dumping my brain in a mostly organized structure for the benefit of all.

I'd love to bring to your attention - and invite a sort of "peer review" if you will of the new site. I'm all ears as to suggestions, criticisms, whatever.

I should note that the image handling isn't quite where I want it to be, so there's no gallery at the moment and the articles/reviews are somewhat "picture scarce" as I don't want to invest the time in a workaround only to replace it later on - but it is something I'm working hard on to resolve. And I plan to illustrate the heck out it.

So without further delay, I'd like y'all to come check out...

Thank you!

I would totally agree, Tobey. As I mentioned, the image handling isn't quite working yet. My goal is to have those thumbnails and even every image in general - pop up a full-sized version. And to add a gallery, etc. I also want to add a LOT more illustrative photos - close ups of the lenses, comparison photos, etc.

I have a way to get around it, but if I go and change all the content to use it, I'd probably have to re-do it all once I got things working smoothly - so I haven't bothered yet.

It's a thorn in my side until it's fixed, so it's a bit of a priority! :D

Nice website.. Since it's new I'm sure you'll get more reviews as time goes on. One thing I would suggest is for things like polls and being able to read a forum. Don't make people get a password for that. Make it like steve huff or leica rumors where all you need is to put in a name and email to post.

Thanks for the feedback!

I'm not totally happy with the forums at the moment, as they're a bit simplistic. For now I've kept the access to polls and posting for members so as not to encourage spammers. We'll see what happens; that could very well change.

I've added a lot of articles in the past week, and buffed up the reviews a little further. I've also got a guest writer that willl write up something once a month. Coming along nicely!

If you haven't stopped by in a while, take a peek and let me know what you think.

If you haven't stopped by in a while, stop by and check it out. Making progress!

We've added a bunch more articles, got the forum just about ready and added a "other sites" index/page to help make finding more Leica/M information easier.

If you have a site yourself, or we missed a good one - let me know.

Due to some formatting issues with the forum, some changes had to be made. So...

- La Vida Leica got a full facelift and format-change

- The forums are now ready - and open for business!

Come on by, register and participate if you'd like. If you want your own blog, be a moderator in the foums or contribute articles - drop me a note.

Enjoy, everyone. :)
