stunsworth Posted February 3, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted February 3, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just curious, have people in the UK received their 30% discount letter from Leica for M8's paid for before the end of December? Â Thanks
gravastar Posted February 3, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted February 3, 2007 Yes, I've just received two for one camera registration LOL. Â Bob.
marknorton Posted February 3, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted February 3, 2007 I received my letter at the end of last year for a camera I had already received but I have not received a letter for the camera which I had paid for but not received by the end of the year. You need to register the camera before there is any hope of a letter. Â Ordered a WATE + finder with the first one but am undecided what to do with the second one, if anything, assuming it arrives. Â I've since received the updated letter with the revised price for the Noctilux but that is all. Â An added complication is that it's now more than two weeks since my first M8 was supposedly shipped back from fixing, it hasn't turned up and I'm taking bets as to actually where it has gone. Timbuktu leads by a nose ahead of the Ascension Islands.... Â I think we can tell that Leica are not used to dealing with the Great Unwashed (aka their customers) directly. Â That's weird. Mine turned up two days after the website said that the camera had shipped.
DaveEP Posted February 3, 2007 Share #5  Posted February 3, 2007 Yes - I received one - but alas I can't claim  The receipt from the dealer is actually dated 2006, but my credit card slip shows Jan 2007...
EricC Posted February 4, 2007 Share #6 Â Posted February 4, 2007 Yes, the same as others, first one with the incorrect pricing for the Nocti and then a second with the corrected Nocti pricing. Â I too have gone for the WA-TE with finder, and, as Mark has stated previously, received my confirmation letter back stating a lead time of 2 to 3 months because of demand. gduveen Posted February 4, 2007 Share #7 Â Posted February 4, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Yes, received it yesterday for a camera bought and paid for in January. A bit strange, but I sent back the claim form for the 30% discount anyway and will see what happens. Â Gerard
ronaldh Posted February 4, 2007 Share #8 Â Posted February 4, 2007 Got mine on Friday and the following day the camera died (see thread on this). Is there a moral here? Â Ronnie
marknorton Posted February 5, 2007 Share #9 Â Posted February 5, 2007 I've now received the second letter, so that's one for a camera received before the end of the year and one for a camera ordered and paid for by the end of the year but not delivered. Â I've ordered the WATE with the first one, in spite of my misgivings about the way the lens integrates with the M8, and a 75mm/1.4 with the second. chris_tribble Posted February 5, 2007 Share #10  Posted February 5, 2007 Just got to down to the London flat and found my letter. I also find, to my surprise, that I'm eligible as I paid a deposit with my dealer in April 2006. Looks like my £300 act of faith has been rewarded. NOW, however, I face a dilemma - I wonder if anyone can advise...  My current lens line up for the M8 is:  Voigtlander 15mm Elmarit 21 / 2.8 (pre asph) Summicron 28 / 2.8 asph Summicron 35 / 2 (pre-asph) Summilux 50 1.4 (pre asph) Summilux 75 1.4 (pre-asph) Summicron 90 f2 (an earlier model - made in Canada) Apo-Telyt 135 3.4  The kind of work I mostly do is people and context documentary + performance. I'm keeping my Canon setup (5D / 1D mk2 + L 16/35 / L 28/70 / L 851.2 / L 70-200) for the kinds of projects where it works...  So - assuming I take advantage of my 30% discount what to get? Main choiceds seem to be:  1/ modernise some of the older lenses. new 50 asph? 35 1.4? 35 2? 2/ get the WATE or 28/35/50 Tele-Elmar.  My current feeling is to go for the Tele-Elmar as a walk about - when I need to go very wide I'm happy with my old 21 + the little VC.  The little niggles are a) go for the 24mm asph - it has such a good reputation, or get the modern lighter 90 Apo Summicron, c) get the lovely asph 35 Summicron - but will I be using the 35mm so much with the 1.33 crop...?  Aaaargh... It's not a BAD problem, but it's got me thinking...  Any comments or advise welcome!
carstenw Posted February 5, 2007 Share #11 Â Posted February 5, 2007 I picked up the 35/2 Asph, and it is a great little lens. Compact, sharp (!), and really smooth, fast focusing. I can really recommend it. I found myself using my 50 Lux Asph less as soon as I bought the 35. The 50 is great, but more for portraits or tele work. I did use it this weekend at the Reichstag here in Berlin, and got some great shots of the glass dome with it, so both clearly have a place in my bag. chris_tribble Posted February 5, 2007 Share #12 Â Posted February 5, 2007 so both clearly have a place in my bag. Â Carsten - agreed on both having a place - with the M8 I'm using the 50 more than I ever did with the film bodies. I suppose the issue is if there's a sufficient quality step between my old model 35 / 2 and the aspherical. I don't feel a big need for the 35 1.4 - never felt like an issue and I relish the small size and weight of the cron. Â C:
jonathan Posted February 5, 2007 Share #13 Â Posted February 5, 2007 Just received the lens I ordered so it all works. This was only a couple of weeks from sending back the letter. By the way it was a 16/21 TE with viewfinder.
marknorton Posted February 6, 2007 Share #14 Â Posted February 6, 2007 John you did well because the lead time for the lens went out very quickly. How is the viewfinder in the finish?
marknorton Posted February 6, 2007 Share #15 Â Posted February 6, 2007 Looks like the 2 - 3 months wait for the WATE is a worst case scenario. My card has just been debited, 5 weeks in.
tashley Posted February 6, 2007 Share #16 Â Posted February 6, 2007 I got my M8 in November and the discount letter came in Jan. I ordered my lens less than two weeks ago and received my new discounted 35mm 1.4 today so... am expecting the M8 to die any moment now, having braved the journey back from Solms last week.... Eoin Posted February 6, 2007 Share #17 Â Posted February 6, 2007 Looks like the 2 - 3 months wait for the WATE is a worst case scenario. My card has just been debited, 5 weeks in. Â The good news is if your card has been debited the lens has been shipped or is in the process of being shipped to you :D Â Leica are not charging cards before the lens is ready to ship.
