LeicaMSeattle Posted May 19, 2011 Share #1  Posted May 19, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I purchased my pre-owned Leica M8 about 3 years ago, where it since has received two replacement sensors (both warranty replacements) as well as the complete upgrade including sapphire display glass and grippy Vulcanite. I just did a metadata check and confirmed that I have 70,478 shutter actuations and counting!  My M8 is used almost daily for architecture and will continue to use it until it quits, where I'll evaluate at that time whether or not to get into an M9 or have the old M8 fixed. Despite people's complaints, my M8 continues to be the workhorse in my arsenal of cameras. So care to share, how many actuations have you recorded on your M8? Welcome, dear visitor! ErikP Posted May 29, 2011 Share #2 Â Posted May 29, 2011 Ticking @ 88xx shutter actuations - I hope to reach your level :-)
efix Posted June 1, 2011 Share #3 Â Posted June 1, 2011 I just checked, out of curiosity -- just over 17150, although approx. 10000 were from the previous owner. So in the one year I had it, I had about 7000 shutter actuations. That makes a statistical twenty pictures a day :-) Although, to be fair, I'd reckon half of that gets deleted right away, and another 10-20% when I go through the DNGs in Lightroom. Still, considering the camera was already more than three years old when I got it, I think I already beat the two previosu owners ;-) (I'm just a hobby photographer, mind you -- my M8 is in no way a professional tool to me.) Â Btw., my M8 is still in its original state -- so far, luckily, no sensors or shutters needed be replaced.
cbretteville Posted June 1, 2011 Share #4 Â Posted June 1, 2011 Mine is just shy of 19000 shots since new in March 2007. Quiet shutter installed in July 2009 and 5000 shots since then. No problems at all. Carl
bentarrow Posted June 2, 2011 Share #5 Â Posted June 2, 2011 When you get quiet shutter installed, you lose 1/8000 shutter speed right? if so, do they change the dial to reflect this or no? ezc203 Posted June 2, 2011 Share #6 Â Posted June 2, 2011 Bentarrow - when you upgrade the shutter, the dial is changed to reflect the new settings. Â Out of curiosity I just check mine. A little over 17000 photos in roughly a year and a half's time. I thought that'd be a lot, but obviously still quite a bit to go considering your shutter count. Maybe when I get to 50k I'll think about upgrading to the M9.......
