Advertisement Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 Hi vinster, Take a look here update 2.0 and peeling skin. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
nigelb Posted May 19, 2011 Share #2 Posted May 19, 2011 Somehow doubt if there's been an X1 sitting on a shelf for 12 months anywhere - that would have to be a rather poor Leica dealer.
robert blu Posted May 19, 2011 Share #3 Posted May 19, 2011 A few final questions before i take the plunge. 2.What improvements are noticable with the new firm ware up dates. Probably this can help. In my opinion improvement with manual focus usability (including DOF scale) is the main and absolutely necessary/usefull point. regards robert

IMHO the black one is nicer 2) see above post 3) all Solms shipments after the 2.0 firmware release will have probably 2.0 factory installed. But really, it is plain easy to update yourself. I agree that if you find a previous release the dealer was somehow inactive
jippiejee Posted May 19, 2011 Share #5 Posted May 19, 2011 I've not experienced any peeling skin myself, even when in the hot tropical moist of South-east Asia my added screen protector peeled off. I'd not worry about that and enjoy the great camera.
Allnm Posted May 19, 2011 Share #6 Posted May 19, 2011 No peeling skin here either, but I do know some retailers were updating their V1 stock after the update V2 before sale. Saves the new owner doing it and its good sales practice too. Doesnt really matter if its updated at the store or comes fresh with V2 from the factory, its still a great camera. spylaw4 Posted May 20, 2011 Share #7 Posted May 20, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Superb results from this camera. Black being intoduced later should be fractionally less liable to peeling, but very very few of either colour suffer now. Firmware V2 in all being delivered. Mac is no problem for software update. Download the file. Unzip it. Move the upd file to the root directory of a sd card. Piece of cake. I have done it on mac fir numerous cameras, including X1
vinster Posted May 21, 2011 Author Share #11 Posted May 21, 2011 That has eased my mind with the update on a Mac, the sales person in the leica dealer said up date was on a PC only.
ezc203 Posted May 21, 2011 Share #12 Posted May 21, 2011 Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the peeling skin/sticky flash/bulging battery door problems were limited to early production grey X1 units. My first one did exhibit these problems (got it in February of 2009) So as far as I understand, if you were to go into a store and buy an X1 today, it should not have these problems.
