A few final questions before i take the plunge.

1. peeling skin is a worry if i want to avoid this happening which model should i go for Black ????

2.What improvements are noticable with the new firm ware up dates.

3.Does the camera now come with the ver 2.0 uploaded which be an indictation of fresh stock not some thing that has been on the shellf for 12 months.

Probably this can help. In my opinion improvement with manual focus usability (including DOF scale) is the main and absolutely necessary/usefull point.

1) is it a worry indeed ? either model will suit you. IMHO the black one is nicer :)

2) see above post

3) all Solms shipments after the 2.0 firmware release will have probably 2.0 factory installed. But really, it is plain easy to update yourself. I agree that if you find a previous release the dealer was somehow inactive ;)

No peeling skin here either, but I do know some retailers were updating their V1 stock after the update V2 before sale. Saves the new owner doing it and its good sales practice too.

Doesnt really matter if its updated at the store or comes fresh with V2 from the factory, its still a great camera.

i live in the leeds area and have not found a dealer with the new versions,York dont jave a black model, Harrogate dont have a any X1 and sheffield only have old stock.

I have a mac and i believe its not easy or even possible to upload the software. So might sit on the fence till new stock is available.

Mac is no problem for software update. Download the file. Unzip it. Move the upd file to the root directory of a sd card. Piece of cake. I have done it on mac fir numerous cameras, including X1

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the peeling skin/sticky flash/bulging battery door problems were limited to early production grey X1 units. My first one did exhibit these problems (got it in February of 2009)

So as far as I understand, if you were to go into a store and buy an X1 today, it should not have these problems.
