Advertisement Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 Hi bouic49, Take a look here Sunlight on suspension bridge. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Alexander Charles Posted May 16, 2011 Share #2 Â Posted May 16, 2011 Dave - I see that you just posted this image and wanted to be the first to tell you that it's a great photo! Nice gray tones, balanced composition, contrast of the man-made bridge against the rugged natural mountains, water in the foreground. You can probably tell I'm an architect.... Great shot! wattsy Posted May 16, 2011 Share #3 Â Posted May 16, 2011 Viewing on my iPhone it looks to be a beautiful photograph. Just wish you hadn't cropped to the panoramic format (if that's what you've done). Â At a glance it could easily be a BW reproduction of a fine Victorian painting. bouic49 Posted May 16, 2011 Author Share #4 Â Posted May 16, 2011 Thanks for your comments Ian. I do tend to crop out what I think is unnecessary to the finished image. I will revisit it just out of curiosity. Â Dave

bouic49 Posted May 16, 2011 Author Share #8 Â Posted May 16, 2011 Ian, Â You suggested that you would have liked to see the whole image rather than the cropped. Well here it is. What do you think?? Â David
Akemi-M Posted May 17, 2011 Share #9 Â Posted May 17, 2011 David, Â Beautiful detail and tonal variation! I love the cropped version, and can only imagine how lovely it would look professionally framed. Well done. Â Best regards, Robert
pauledell Posted May 17, 2011 Share #10 Â Posted May 17, 2011 David, Â I like both versions very well but the first cropped version is special in my opinion. Stunning tones, composition, lighting, sharpness and atmosphere. Â Paul
wattsy Posted May 17, 2011 Share #11 Â Posted May 17, 2011 You suggested that you would have liked to see the whole image rather than the cropped. Well here it is. What do you think?? Â Thanks for posting that Dave. I can see the attraction of the cropped version but I think I do prefer the uncropped version.
jpattison Posted May 17, 2011 Share #12 Â Posted May 17, 2011 Superb! Â Lucky to get the water still, and the kiss of sunlight on the bank. I prefer the pan, just! Â John
Alexander Charles Posted May 17, 2011 Share #13 Â Posted May 17, 2011 In the uncropped photo a natural 'oval' is formed around the bridge by the mountains and the reflection of the mountains in the water. In my opinion this creates a very nice composition within the context of the overall photo. Â The cropped version looks more like an historical 'engineering record photo' that I have seen of many bridges and civic structures. They are both lovely photos, but in my opinion, the uncropped version is more of an 'artistic composition' and the cropped version is more of a 'documentary/engineering record'. That's my two cents. I hope this wasn't too 'wordy'.
Guest Benqui Posted May 17, 2011 Share #14 Â Posted May 17, 2011 I like both, but I prefer no.1 which is so compact and well defined. But it is purely a matter of taste. Both provide an attraction. Regards, Marc

biglouis Posted May 18, 2011 Share #17 Â Posted May 18, 2011 I prefer the second one and it works because of the rule of thirds composition. Nicely seen and captured.
250swb Posted May 18, 2011 Share #18 Â Posted May 18, 2011 A fantastic photograph, made all the better by being in B&W, none of that distracting colour. I like both versions but prefer the uncropped one as the extra space changes the perception of the bridge from an elegant form dominating the image to a part player in a bigger, vaster, landscape.
