fjmcsu Posted February 2, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted February 2, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) To those who have purchased a half case for the M8. I am in the process of ordering a half case for my M8 but can't decide on the whether to get the detachable or hanging door.Luigi recommends the attached (why?) but in some ways I like the idea of the removable.Does the hanging door get in the way? Comments appreciated
Advertisement Posted February 2, 2007 Posted February 2, 2007 Hi fjmcsu, Take a look here hanging or permanent Luigi cover M8. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
kidigital Posted February 2, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted February 2, 2007 I've wondered about that too. Also, I could never tell if the image on his site is of the M8 half-case one with or without the built-in hand grip.
papimuzo Posted February 2, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted February 2, 2007 I got a Luigi's half case detachable type. Means two more holes at the rear with possible wearing them -inside/outside; but you can use both ways: detachable/attached/detached. Your feeling after all, and.....remember attached gives you the film "sensation":) Anyway, a very good product.
amedick Posted February 2, 2007 Share #4 Â Posted February 2, 2007 I just went through the same decision process an hour ago, and went for and ordered the removeable. Â I did ask Luigi if you could get the half case with just the cutout, no flap and hence no rivots needed. This is what I wold prefer if I had the option. If i get an answer I will post on this site. egibaud Posted February 2, 2007 Share #5 Â Posted February 2, 2007 I bought the hanging one as I thought the fully removable part of anything is the best system to lose such removable part ;-) Â I haven't received my M8 yet so I cannot tell how practicable it is, I can say the case looks, feels, smells WONDERFUL !!!! truando Posted February 2, 2007 Share #7 Â Posted February 2, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have the hanging one and it's absolutely perfect! Very fast to open, doesn't get lost, doesn't get into your way. just great!
EotyLMB Posted February 2, 2007 Share #8 Â Posted February 2, 2007 Just received the hanging one this week. Great design. I close it unless actively using M8. Feel I will keep LCD covered more with the hanging design and avoid scratches. Â BTW Luigi is one Great Guy to deal with. Â LMB
herbkell Posted February 2, 2007 Share #9  Posted February 2, 2007 Not to be contrary but I have the removeable one and think it's the best of both worlds  I am however worried about loosing it!
Woody Campbell Posted February 2, 2007 Share #10 Â Posted February 2, 2007 I vote removable. I keep my ldc cover off, in the box where I keep all of my other little-used Leica do-dads.
kidigital Posted February 2, 2007 Share #11 Â Posted February 2, 2007 Does the version of the half-case without the hand grip include the little ridge on the front? I'm trying to understand what the version with the hand grip looks like versus the one without. Thanks.
jfaier Posted February 2, 2007 Share #12 Â Posted February 2, 2007 I have a half case removeable rear door with a full case. I wish the full case could snap to the half case, but the snaps are used for the removable door when it is in place - so check this out - maybe with the hanging door this issue is eliminated which is why Luigi recommends. I dunno. In anyevent, even so, I love the look and feel of my case. I get compliments on it everywhere - everyone wants to one a cute little M8 - until I tell them how much it costs! ! ! ! ! ! You cant go wrong they are all beautiful.
trs Posted February 3, 2007 Share #13 Â Posted February 3, 2007 JFaier, Â Since you have the full case, what are the lenses it can hold. I did not see what lens it can fit. I am considering the full case. Â By the way, I think I will get the detatchable even with full case (3 pieces) that way I can use also use it as half case. tom0511 Posted February 3, 2007 Share #14 Â Posted February 3, 2007 May I ask you guys if you find those kind of bags really usefull? When/how do you use it? when you carry only the camera without an additional bag? So far I allways found a small normal bag, where I could also carry some other smll itmes more usefull than a bag which constantly stays on the camera. Does such a bag not just make the M8 bigger and bulkier? Does the camer really need protection in the moment one is shooting with it? I am not criticizing just evaluating if such a bag would make sense for me or not. kind regards, tom

Although, I think the main reason I may get one is for the grip- I like it better than the metal one attached to the bottom, if it works as well. I had an old Kodak Retina with a leather half case and it felt kind of nice to be holding nice soft leather in your hands so the case may have more benefits for feel as opposed to protection. But I haven't tried one on the M8 yet. I'm wating for my strap to come any day now.
jfaier Posted February 4, 2007 Share #16 Â Posted February 4, 2007 Tanka and Thomas - Â Regarding lens and full case size, i have used it with a 90mm, 50, 35, 28, and 21! It can accomodate the hood on the 21mm - but it is tight - but it works! So this has been great. Â Thomas - i also sometimes take a system bag with me, but when I run out the door and want to have my M8 with me, have on one lens, and maybe another in my coat pocket, a few cards, and an extra battery, i love that I can carry the camera around with me, and not worry about it getting bumped around and such. It is definitely a convenience case. I sometimes put the M8 with half case in the system bag and use it like that. But when I fly out the door for a night of shots on the town, and I cant lug the bigger bag, this has been great. Plus I feel like a bonafide tourist in my own town, :-). To me its all about access, and having the full case availble which you can flip off, really lets me use the camera on the fly, verus pulling it out of a more robust system case. plus - its cool. marco_rol Posted February 4, 2007 Share #17 Â Posted February 4, 2007 Another vote for the full case with the removable top and extra removable rear flap. I prefer having the flexability to take the top off and only using the half case. And if I should lose the removable part, I can always order a replacement for just the removable top form Luigi. Â I also like the case over a full camera bag for the same reasons John Faier mentioned. I can grab it and one lens and take it on the fly. I don't like to hassle with a full bag in those situations. As far as size goes, I have a 21MM on it now with hood and it is tight, but still fits.
fjmcsu Posted February 4, 2007 Author Share #18 Â Posted February 4, 2007 Thanks for all the ideas & opinions. While waiting for Luigi to respond this weekend, I've decided to order the full case, removable door , etc. This gives me flexability as noted to go half or full case when needed. Now to figure the Pay Pal billing.Euro to dollar conversion is a nice( ) hit!
