terrycioni Posted February 2, 2007 Share #1 Posted February 2, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) All you fellow Canadian who have the M8 and received "THE" second and supposedly correct 30% discount letter. I have a couple of questions? The pricing was in Euro ok so the credit card company will do that conversion; the question is, will Leica cover the PST/GST, along with any excise tax and shipping - that is my impression of the offer. If that is the case then it is a good price offer. Any thoughts or has anyone taken up the offer....in Canada? Cheers. Terry.

robsteve Posted February 2, 2007 Share #2 Posted February 2, 2007 Terry: This might be a question to ask the Canadian Leica rep. Since we are distributed through NJ, we may be using the USA pricing. Robert

My local rep is excellent but he is an independent rep - who carries Leica product that comes from NJ. NJ although always very helpful claim no specific knowledge of how things will work on this offer in Canada. They do know all about the US offer. My best bet is to ask Germany, but before I do that I thought I would ask the folks here... Best to all. Terry.
Jamie Roberts Posted February 2, 2007 Share #4 Posted February 2, 2007 Terry, It's complicated by the fact that the new letter states somewhere (I don't have it here) that the prices include all taxes, doesn't it? Dunno. If I were a betting man I'd bet you'd be on the hook for GST...

Dunno. If I were a betting man I'd bet you'd be on the hook for GST... Jamie, Yes, you are totally right. I don't have the letter in front of me, but it says the prices include the VAT (in our case the GST/PST) and any import duties; plus shipping etc. I am not sure they mean what they say... I am not sure they know what they committed to if indeed we are reading the letter the way it is intended. It is confusing. Best. Terry. Eoin Posted February 2, 2007 Share #6 Posted February 2, 2007 The price you pay is the total price including ALL import taxes, VAT, GST what ever. The price is all in delivered into your hand.

When I contacted Leica they referred me to him as their Canadian representative and paid by Leica. Are you saying Leica NJ also has a west coast representative, or are you referring to a third party that sells Leica in Canada? We may also be getting a lost in translation thing here. when I refer to rep, I mean sales representative, ie the guy that services the Leica customers and the stores that sell Leica. He is also the person that puts on the Leica Days at various Leica dealers.
canlogic Posted February 2, 2007 Share #8 Posted February 2, 2007 My understanding is that is all included in the price. Leica US has nothing to do with this. The lens will be shipped directly to you thats why our letter shows the VAT (gst/pst) as being included. I think the letter for the US is different. Jamie Roberts Posted February 2, 2007 Share #9 Posted February 2, 2007 Fabulous. No tax or duty makes a huge difference! Now I just have to decide what lens to get (and get copies of my receipts--I have misplaced both the handwritten copy and the MasterCard form!!) george + Posted February 2, 2007 Share #10 Posted February 2, 2007 I was assuming no additional tax - whatsoever. And ordered the TriElmar 28-35-50. And chewing my nails and waiting. :)

There is no official "Canadian" Leica distributor therefore the reps are usually independents. On the west coast - Leica USA uses Kerwin Sales. The sales rep happens to be Eric Kerwin, he reps Leica along with a number of other products, including LowePro. I am sure you will find the same situation out East. I hear that Leica Germany would like to have a a Canadian Distributor - but as it stands the equipment comes from the US, even the Canadian dealer price list is the same price list that US dealers receive. Eric Kerwin puts on the various Leica Days we have had in Vancouver. Best Regards. Terry.
