jedi996sps Posted May 7, 2011 Share #1  Posted May 7, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, Can anyone help? the attached image shows some strange effect on the grooms left shoulder, like the pattern of the fabric has caused some confusion in the digital sensor. The image has not been altered in anyway, other than reducing the image size within photoshop to facilitate posting. The original image is in DNG and was shot on an M8 with 50asph lux with IR filter.  I am using Photoshop 3 only.  Any comments gratefully recieved.  Kind Regards  Ali

pop Posted May 7, 2011 Share #2  Posted May 7, 2011 This is what is called a moiré pattern. It occurs when a regular pattern (such as piece of cloth) is recorded with a sensor which has a regular pattern with a similar spacial frequency. Digital cameras and scanners do it.  Searching for "moire pattern" yield many hints on how to cope. Also, I hope some more knowledgeable members will provide more information.  BTW, the pattern is called after the pattern often seen on silk fabrics as may be found on the inside of briefcases or purses. jedi996sps Posted May 7, 2011 Author Share #4  Posted May 7, 2011 Malcolm/Philipp, excellent, thank you both ever so much for taking the time and trouble to reply. I will have look at it again later. My friends asked me to take some shots at their wedding as they could not afford a professional photographer, so let me also thank you on their behalf.
