New M8 arrived today and it seems bizarre.Took a few pictures and only a few would register on the card. LCD says battery full and is flashing zero. When I press "Play" I get 0/0

WTF!

Get a new SD card? (Have Lexar 133 now, new today.)

Pretty frustrated...

Peter let's try to reset this. Turn camera on than go into menu and on the power off option use disable so the camera does not turn off on you. Now let the camera and battery completely drain , just let it go dead. Than recharge the battery and replace.

This sounds like a bad card though. The rest is good to do anyway but i would certainly try a different card is the SD card locked by chance

Before resetting the M8, I'd try reformatting the card using your Mac (or PC) before putting it in the camera. Reformat it again using the M8 then see if it works properly. For what it's worth I had some weird behaviour with a Lexar 133x card a few months ago (it appeared locked to the M8) and I cured it using the above method.

And I'm pretty sure the SD is not locked, at least I don't think so. Tried all sorts of arrangements tab up tab down, but no difference. When I take a picture this morning (d__n this thing feels good in my hands) I get an instant review, then when I press play, I get "Attention No valid image to play." I'm going to drain today and get another SD for kicks.

It really sounds like the card Peter so do get another card Transcend 150 X works good and some of the Sandisk just don't buy the SDHC type since it is not supported, than reformat it in the camera. The reset is a good practice to do anyway the first one or two times for the battery so continue that but do try another card. Keep us posted, this is a great place to be with the M8 because most of us have seen the issues and can guide you.

Also remember that compatibility with cards over 4 gigabytes is going to be hit-or-miss, because SDHC cards aren't compatible at this time, and non -HC 4 gigabyte cards are kind of a non-standard, so you may need to do a bit of experimenting to find a brand that works in the M8. Also, there have been reports of counterfeit SD cards purchased from eBay, so buy from a reputable seller. Transcend 2 GB 150x cards are very reasonably priced on newegg.com.

There is a free utility - do a google search - that works on the Mac called card wiper. I think there is a PC version. I solved a number of camera card problems by using 'card wiper' and then reformatting the card in the camera. Worth a shot I guess!

Of some interest, the camera store I frequent had a bunch of no-name 4 gig SD cards - they gave me one with a caution that they usual don't work well, they were right it didn't work in most cameras I tried. Then the M8 arrived - and I have been using it in two different M8's one pre Nov. 27 and one post Nov. 27 without a single failure ever since. Go figure. I did do a 'card wipe' M8 reformat on the card before I used it and it has not been in any other digicam since the M8s arrived. Typically I use SanDisk 2 gig cards (fast I can get).

Best to all. Terry.

It was the card. Got a ScanDisk SD and it works like a charm. All the funkiness (for lack of a better word) is gone.

I exchanged the Lexar as a dud. So, despite the fact that I'm a scientist, I'll never know if I could have made it work with the other techniques suggested. Double blind- I don't know and you won't know...I did however, try to reformat the SD both on my Mac and in the camera with no success. So, I'm inclined to think it really was the Lexar 133. I was quite surprised how strange the camera was acting if the card alone as the problem. But, as far as I can tell, it's performing perfectly right now.

Thanks to Guy and others for suggestions. I'll post some pictures soon.
