hankg Posted February 1, 2007 Share #1 Posted February 1, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am looking for a 28 to accompany the 50mm Summilux-M for my M8. I am considering the Zeiss 28/2.8 Biogon, the 4th gen 28/2.8 Elmarit-M and the new 28/2.8 Elmarit ASPH. Although the current generation of Leica glass is spectacular I prefer the rendering (and price) of the last generation of Leica lenses for most subjects. I think the Zeiss lenses are more similar to the pre-ASPH Leicas, sharp but with a more old school look. Any opinions or sample images on these lenses? Thanks. Advertisement Posted February 1, 2007 Posted February 1, 2007 Hi hankg, Take a look here 28mm biogon, 4th gen Elmarit-M or ASPH. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
gtmerideth Posted February 1, 2007 Share #2 Posted February 1, 2007 Sean Reid's review of the 28's you mention answers all your questions. You need a subscription if you don't have one and it's worth every penney. http://www.reidreviews.com/
hankg Posted February 1, 2007 Author Share #3 Posted February 1, 2007 Sean's excellent review does not include the Elmarit-M, although it does make me lean towards the Zeiss. Sean prefers the 'tension' in the ASPH backgrounds, I like a smooth transition from sharp to really soft backgrounds.
