Advertisement Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 Hi MarkP, Take a look here Café de Paris. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
stuny Posted April 27, 2011 Share #2 Posted April 27, 2011 Mark - Terrific, and cinematic. I suspect he tries to project that image.
semrich Posted April 27, 2011 Share #3 Posted April 27, 2011 I like this, his attitude, the tones and lights and pensive looking face in the background and the cafe sign on the door all contribute to it.
epand56 Posted April 27, 2011 Share #4 Posted April 27, 2011 This one smells of Paris a mile far. Great moment, composition and B&W tones.
tmldds Posted April 27, 2011 Share #5 Posted April 27, 2011 You captured the spirit so well. I wish I had made a shot like this on my trip to Paris last month. Tri:)
TshawM8 Posted April 27, 2011 Share #6 Posted April 27, 2011 Brilliant. That is about the best summary of this photo I can conceive. Thanks for sharing. Cheers, Thomas

Doc Henry Posted April 27, 2011 Share #8 Posted April 27, 2011 It gives an effect of film noir Nice capture Mark ! Henry
sweetoleander Posted April 28, 2011 Share #9 Posted April 28, 2011 I agree on the film noir. Wonderful tones, and a deep velvety black.
likalar Posted April 28, 2011 Share #10 Posted April 28, 2011 Mark, great shot and atmosphere; I especially like the crop and generous breathing room around the man. Larry
MarkP Posted April 28, 2011 Author Share #11 Posted April 28, 2011 Thanks for all of your comments, especially appreciated as I rarely post in the 'People' section. Henry, I'd not thought of the 'film noir' because of the situation in which the photo was taken, but you're right about the mood. Mark

Pintpot Posted April 28, 2011 Share #13 Posted April 28, 2011 A great slice of Paris life! lovely b&w processing
roguewave Posted April 28, 2011 Share #14 Posted April 28, 2011 Well seen & presented. The second person inside the cafe makes this image all the more interesting.
alun Posted April 28, 2011 Share #15 Posted April 28, 2011 ISn't it interesting how big a difference clothes make? If he had been wearing standard issue leisure clothes (jeans, a zip-up jacket, whatever) this image wouldn't lift off at all. BUt the somewhat formal clothing is absolutely central in the mood this picture has. Lovely.
Ivan Muller Posted April 28, 2011 Share #16 Posted April 28, 2011 Yes! its got it all, the drawing on the cigarette, the sort of mysterious jacket and hat - almost cloak & dagger- the person behind the window, the name of the cafe on the left to place it without the need of a caption.....Great! MarkP Posted April 28, 2011 Author Share #17 Posted April 28, 2011 Thanks again to all of you for the comments. Ben, note there are two people behind the window, one looking over each of his shoulders. Yes Alun & Ivan, you're right. It did surprisingly seem to all come together for this one. Glad you like it. Filippo17 Posted April 28, 2011 Share #18 Posted April 28, 2011 A very good B&W tone, and a beautiful cinematographic shot. I like it.
tuna Posted April 28, 2011 Share #19 Posted April 28, 2011 It's all been said - wonderful. I'll add that the texture of the overcoat, scarf, sweater and hat are palpable. Tuna
otto.f Posted April 28, 2011 Share #20 Posted April 28, 2011 It's all been said Tuna Is it? What makes this photo special for me and different from other (possible) photo's of this kind, that have certainly been made and not published as far as we know, is the (wo)man(?) inside the Café looking outside (at the photographer)?)
