wattsy Posted June 30, 2011 Share #121 Posted June 30, 2011 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Check the road pattern and buildings (especially the long one on the left which appears to be surrounded by two shorter buildings on either side) and the jetty. It has to be Goose Green surely? Edited June 30, 2011 by wattsy
Advertisement Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 Hi wattsy, Take a look here The world from above - Game Thread. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
stuny Posted June 30, 2011 Share #122 Posted June 30, 2011 Uwe - Ian was so close (His guess of Goose Green was just to the south southwest of Darwin), but you beat him to it. Your turn.
wattsy Posted June 30, 2011 Share #123 Posted June 30, 2011 Your photo doesn't look anything like the Darwin visible on Google maps and almost exactly like Goose Green. Are you sure you are not mistaken Stuart?
esquire53 Posted June 30, 2011 Share #124 Posted June 30, 2011 Well, I just picked the cherry off the cake and I agree with wattsy, so I hand it over to you wattsy. It's better be a good one, wattsy.
stuny Posted June 30, 2011 Share #125 Posted June 30, 2011 (edited) Ian - Absolutely certain. We landed in Darwin on a grass strip, and then drove about 100 meters to the Darwin guest house we stayed in. Oops! Looking at the photo again I see that it must be Goose Green, just before going a touch further north to land. Sorry. wattsy Posted July 1, 2011 Share #126 Posted July 1, 2011 It's better be a good one, wattsy. I doubt it - I'm not even sure I have any more aerials to choose from. Still, it's good to know I wasn't seeing things as far as Goose Green/Darwin goes.

wattsy Posted July 1, 2011 Share #128 Posted July 1, 2011 Yes, please do. The few aerials I have are either ridiculously obscure or pointlessly easy.

Michael Geschlecht Posted July 2, 2011 Share #130 Posted July 2, 2011 Hello Uwe, Is it possible we are in France? Best Regards, Michael
esquire53 Posted July 2, 2011 Share #131 Posted July 2, 2011 Michael, No. we are not in France. The name of the river is also the name of the state, I travelled to cheers Uwe
stuny Posted July 2, 2011 Share #132 Posted July 2, 2011 That might suggest the USA, in which case this is the Missouri or the Mississippi. If so, we just need to look for ox bows along both.
dcoombs Posted July 2, 2011 Share #133 Posted July 2, 2011 Or the Delaware. (Not the Colorado, too green...). Doug
esquire53 Posted July 2, 2011 Share #134 Posted July 2, 2011 yes, it is the USA, non of the states mentioned the river is among the 50 longest in the world ... the river almost meanders like the Ural, I had before, but either trough reguations or natural changes, the main river bed looks more straight....
