jaapv Posted February 1, 2007 Author Share #5 Posted February 1, 2007 That is right - modest, but my line-up was pretty complete. This turns the M8 into a medium-sized pocket-camera. And gives it a delightful retro look
artur5 Posted February 1, 2007 Share #6 Posted February 1, 2007 If a 50/2.8 Elmar was so fast, just go figure a Noctilux. -3 stops faster - I expect it would come in 2 days...

marknorton Posted February 1, 2007 Share #10 Posted February 1, 2007 Jaap, can you post a picture of it collapsed on the M8 - did you consider the 28/2.8 as an alternative "pocket camera" lens?
cbretteville Posted February 1, 2007 Share #11 Posted February 1, 2007 The new one yes, the old one no.This new one does not damage my M8's. This is very interesting news. By old ones do you mean the older 50 elmars or is there a new mount for the 50mm Elmar-M (11831/11823)???
wattsy Posted February 1, 2007 Share #12 Posted February 1, 2007 The new one yes, the old one no.This new one does not damage my M8's. Are you sure about this? I had a current version Elmar a couple of years ago and the rear element protrudes quite some distance when in the collapsed position - enough I'd think to foul the shutter blades on an M8. tom0511 Posted February 1, 2007 Share #13 Posted February 1, 2007 The M8 documentation says collapsable lenses should not be collapsed on the M8 except the 90/4.0 Macro. They do not mention the 50/2.8 as an exception. So I wonder if its kind of risky to do that? Did you check how much clearance there is? Does the focus setting has an influence? Cheers, Tom
htroom Posted February 1, 2007 Share #14 Posted February 1, 2007 Two Days ago i called Leica and asked wether i can use and collapse the Elmar 1:1,8/50 on my new M8. They said i can use it (of course) and collapse it completely. In the manual they write you should not collapse it but the Leica-man said it's possible. So i measured the distance between the shutter an the bayonet-ring - it's nearly 25 mm. The maximum length of the tubus of the Elmar ist 21mm. So it must fit. I put the Elmar on the M8 and it fits there is no problem. I think it's not easy to put the Elmar on the M8 when its collapsed bcause of the tubus. But it's no problem when it's extended. The second photo i did with the elmar on the M8. Greetings Jörg Welcome, dear visitor! cbretteville Posted February 1, 2007 Share #15 Posted February 1, 2007 This is the best news I've had all week! I love this little lens on my M6. - Carl
tom0511 Posted February 1, 2007 Share #16 Posted February 1, 2007 good news! I allways liked that 50/2.8. The lens is said to be quit good at short distances. However on the M8 kind of long for walk around. Another nice, small lens is the 35cron (pre-asph). cheers, Tom

(*) Very fine on M4, other 28s seem monsters in dimension, and works fine at 8-16 (*) ]Not to mention the 28 6,3 Hektor, but well... a little old... carstenw Posted February 1, 2007 Share #18 Posted February 1, 2007 The 35/2 Asph is small, and the M8 with this on fits in my lined jacket pocket. The 28/2.8 Asph is even smaller, around the same size as the 35/2, so that should be compact too.

It's fast, it's equivalent to a 50 mm lens, it's utterly compact, and the crop does spruce up the corners -- I've had great results with it, even wide open.
