Eisenmarkt Wetzlar, all who have read Herr Osterloh's fine books will know it. Well, cheekily, I did it again 2006 with an M7 and a collapsible 50 just purchased from Solms (very kind folk there too) it was my pilgrimage and homage to the man himself. Wetzlar is worth three weeks holiday on its own by the way, never mind the stunning journey there (motorcycle, black forest) but I only had a week.

ps sorry only just rejoined (on this mac) but I wanted to see how many recognised the shot

While I have never been there, your picture is nearly identical to a picture taken in1983 and is part of Gunter Osterloh's "Leica M Advanced Photo School" book. Also very much the same as shots taken by Oskar Barnack in 1913 and shown in the same book. This is very interesting. Thanks for posting.

Off Topic and apologies in advance, but why calling German gentlemen "Herr"?

Just as unnecessary - or perhaps even slightly offending in the subject's eyes - as calling British gentlemen Mister or Dutch gentlemen Meneer :)

Fortunately this thing has been weeded out in the Digital Forum; haven't seen it for a long time.

no offense taken nor meant respect to 'Herr' ~~ just my friend and I refer to him that way from profound respect, same as Professor Berek deserves his title in spades. Not meant as pretensious. I had read Osterloh's book (50 Jahre Leica M) in which he again reproduced the shot, so I guess I was well rehearsed to stand in the same spot on my tiny pilgramage. I had to wait four hours for the sun shadow triangles on the buildings - they aren't as good as Barnack's - and for delivery vans, curious peoples etc, so the shot was not an easy take. Early october by the way, hence the low light did not fill the courtyard as it should've. Good shooting all
