Hi There.

It's been a lonely time - my M8 went off to Solms on January 8th. I think it took a little longer than some as I got them to check the focus as well - it arrived back today - it certainly works, whether there is any difference remains to be seen.

I celebrated by getting 1/2 hour before the sun set:

21mm pre-asph canadian elmarit:

raw file processed in Lightroom (with dust removed in photoshop - the dust was my free gift from Solms :o )

and then by irritating the family at supper time:

50mm 'cron 1/60th ISO 640

it's such a gas shooting black and white jpg files - this is just a contrast and crop job.

It had a couple of presents to greet it's return, a hand grip, an old fasioned 21/24/28 viewfinder and a secondhand pre-asph 21mm elmarit - they all seem to be getting on just fine!

Great day for Jono! Congrats, and thanks for the lovely images also. I am waiting on mine, and never realized one could get "withdrawal problems" from a camera. Glad yours is back and you are out shooting with it again. Sounds like some nice "welcome home" goodies also.

Stunning website...I have not visited it since your D1X days...nice to see your

M8 photos. I may have to reconsider purchasing one.

Jono, you are lucky to get your M8 back so soon. Glad that you can now enjoy to the full.

Mine went to Solms in the first week of December and is still NOT back! I have a total understanding of withdrawal symptoms, but have been paliating the effect with a my M6's & M7. Great, but not the same.

Cheers,

Erl

Hi LJ

It's rather pathetic isn't it - the only consolation I can give you was that it was nicer opening the returned camera, than it was getting the original. It already seems like an old friend, and after 4000+ shots the edges are a little shiny - when it went away it seemed like deterioration - now it seems like patina :o

I was a bit radical with the handgrip and got a black one - I actually think it looks good on my silver camera - just a little different!

Hi Bob

That's a while back! I did love the D1x though, my first Dslr, and there are still a few shots I really like.

The M8 is a wonderful thing - but maybe you don't need a 'wonderful thing' to shoot with, for me it's something to live up to - it's sitting on my desk at the moment with an "are you worthy" kind of look on it's 50mm 'cron - I'm not sure that I am, but it's certainly an aspirational object. Not as sensible or technically perfect as lots of other cameras, but there is that 'thing' about it.

Thanks for posting - I'm flattered that you can remember the older stuff.

Jono, the land/skyscape is a corker! Lovely shot.

Hi Peter

Thank you - the end of the day, and I was lucky with the clouds - maybe it bodes well for the new body.

A moment's reflection reminded me that the black and white shot would certainly have shown banding from that light before it'd gone away - so maybe it was worth it after all!

Hi there - but at least you can sit on the beach while you're waiting!

I spent a wonderful month shooting film with an M6ttl . . . . . . and then a drab one scanning in the results!

Let's hope it gets back soon.

Jono,

I forgot to ask about something. Since it is so close to the hopeful release of v1.10 software (I say hopeful with lost of wishing), did Leica by any chance load something beyond v1.09 onto your recently returned camera? That would be an even nicer surprise.

Lol - but I didn't forget to check! No - I have version 1.09 like the rest of us - but, and I wasn't even thinking about it - that second photo would certainly have shown banding before
