Hallo,

No valid image to play" info.

Bitte um Eure HILFE! Bitte....was soll ich machen?!

Google Translation:

Hi,

I recently erfuhlt me my dream and bought a Leica DMR Firmware 1.1.

Unfortunately, I can take pictures with it; (

After switching I hear a pip, the red Lampchen flashes briefly, then the Leica logo appears on the display and I see information about "no SD card, so the card slot eroefnet of me and a 1GB SD instaled card in card slot. So far everything is normal as it should be, but .... it follows the red Lampchen longer and there are two "TIRUP, TIRUP Sounds blinckt, I slept the card slot ...

Now I see eien information "FORMAT: Do you wish to format SD Card?" I'm doing, "YES" we have 5 x "TIRUP, TIRUP, TIRUP, TIRUP, TIRUP" to hear and it is another question "Do you wish to format SD Card?. " appears on the numbers "0"and it can be do not take pictures.

Card is not formatted everything (pictures from previous owner) is what was on it!

According to the card owner had been used to this Leica! DMR few Pictures are on it!? This I can see in the Computers and pressures in my DMR of "PLAY" button a "No valid image to play" info.

I need your help! Please .... what should I do?

Have you tried a different SD card? The one in the camera may be corrupt.

The problem may be that your DMR's SD card contacts need cleaning because of a thin film of graphite (carbon) that can build up over time. To clean it you need to use an ordinary pencil rubber (eraser) an rub the contacts with it. You may have difficulty getting the rubber into the narrow slot and moving it around enough to clean the contact but if you glue a thin sliver of rubber to a thin, broad stick like a lollipop stick you should be able to do it.

Another way is to put a thin, broad stick inside the finger of a Latex glove and rub the contacts.

Whatever you do make sure to only move the stick in the direction of the contacts but never side to side in case you accidentally bend or damage them. Please let us know if this helps.:o

Are you using the DMR on an R8 or R9?

Have you cleaned all the gold contacts on the DMR unit and your camera?

(This may not help your problem, but keeping those contacts clean is very important. Some older R8s have firmware problems that prevent DMRs from working, but Leica can easily fix that for you)

andybarton: Yes I tried SD cards from another DMR but he has only 4gb ultra III and so far I know it could make problems to work with 1.1 firmware

farnz: sounds interesting it wasnt used for a long time.It sounds a little like a mission ipossible (becouse of thin card slot) but who knows maybe i could do it!

Another point might be to check to be sure that the DMR is itself assembled correctly with all the joints tight and the screw at the bottom that fastens it to the camera fully done up, also that it fully aligns to the camera, as the type of erratic display changes and flickering of LEDs that you describe can also be caused by that.

Perhaps carefully taking it apart  and cleaning the camera / DMR contacts may help.

Another point to consider is that if you can get a card into it that works, switching to Firmware 1.3 would be an considerable advantage.

If you haven't got anything that's thin enough to fit into the SD card slot then you could find an old or cheap SD card, carefully open it up with a sharp knife, replace its metal contacts with a strip of rubber (pencil eraser) and put it back together. It'll be thin enough to fit into the slot and the tension on the DMR's contact springs will be enough to clean the contacts after several insertions I would expect.:)

(I recommend having a pair of needle nose pliers or tweezers handy for some gentle persuasion if the SD card is a little larger than it was wants to stay put.)

Pete -

What if the piece of rubber stays deep inside the slot?

It would be an 'Uh-Oh' moment, Stuart.:o

I probably didn't describe well enough what I was meaning. If the SD card's circuit board and contacts were removed then a single sliver of rubber could be placed inside the SD card so it runs laterally across the holes made for the contacts. The 'springiness' of the DMR's card contacts would allow the contacts to reach the rubber and so clean the contacts as the SD card is pushed in and out of the slot. That's the theory anyway.:)
