to have this splendid Forum. There is so much good stuff in here, and such helpful and knowledgable people, that it must be one of the best Forums on the Internet, no question. Now we even have the Collector's section, which is right up my street. Or it would be - if it wasn't for the sad fact that I am a Hasselblad and Zeiss man at heart. Oh woe. Now, I know I do have a little tiny bit of a stake here, as I own a Panasonic LC1 (which has a lens with "Leica" on it, at least), but to be completely honest with you Hasselblad is my passion, with Rolleiflex TLRs running a close second. The snag is, we classic Hassy types have no decent forum of our own which comes anywhere near this place. So, just to have it on record - a big thank you to Andreas, all our Moderators, and of course to all the members who make the Leica Camera User Forum the great place it is. Errrm - Andreas, you wouldn't like to think about starting another forum for Hasselblad people, I suppose? No, perhaps not ;)

We are lucky in the sense that there are far more Leica users and that even the oldest Leicas use the same film as most other non digital cameras. With Hassys and Rolleis you are using a film which is exclusive to you. I sold my Rollei 2.8F for that reason plus I didn't feel my 12x16s from a 50mm Summicron were any worse than a 12x16 from a 80mm Planar. Maybe my skill is not high enough. Also compositionally I don't like square images so I was not using alot of the 6x6 neg., but that's purely a personal.view.

I suppose one could start a "Dinosaur Forum" or a "Square Forum". Come to think of it some of us Leica people are squares anyway.

Huh?

John, have you tried the Amateur Photographer forums? Most of it is digi-related (sign of the times), but there are a goodly number of classic camera fans over there, including another Rollei fanatic.

I had a Rollei 3.5F until a few months ago, and it was a beautiful camera. I decided to sell it though, as I can't get on with the TLR design. Still have an MX-EVS type in the wardrobe though. :)

I agree that this is one of, if not the best photo website I've found. And it's not just an internet based forum either!

Maybe it's something about Leica users, I don't know.

Anyway, I have a Rolleicord but not a Hassy - I went down the Bronny 645 route when I was doing weddings. I've posted on the Bronny photonet forum but its very random and not a patch on this one.

Dare I say it, but it's worth the price of a Leica just to be able to take part!

Dear Anthony,

this forum just is your dino-forum, you are dreaming of.

I agree with our "hassy-friend" above, that I never read and joint (nearly every day - that I never did before !) a such forum, full of knowing what about and how to deal.

Even some humour from day to day.

I love it. And I love and appreciate the helpful advices.

It is not so bad in "our" German forum, but this International Forum is great!

(even, if I do not understand all with my 50 year old school-English)

For example this LOL. Does that mean "lots of laughter" or "lots of love"?

Anyway.

Love you all.

It's not luck. It's a common thread. A common purpose. A common ethos. A common goal.

It's a focused (excuse the non-intentional pun...) forum. We all have one thing in common. Some may be new-Leica people. All digital, all SD card, all Photoshop.

Others are all Tri-X, all Delta 100, all D76 or DD-X.

It doesn't matter. We are all Wetzlar at heart.

Somehow, being a Canon user or Nikonian doesn't have the same warm and fuzzy feeling to it.

Name me one other photography forum on the net which has the same ambience as this one... I double-dare you...

Ahh... I think I'm going to cry...

Manfred, LOL means "Laugh out loud".:D

BTW, your English is much better than my Deutsch.

Tony, I agree with your sentiments about the square format. You always have to leave room around the edges in order to be able to crop for "standard" print sizes. On the other hand, the 24 x 36 mm format doesn't fit directly into an 8 x 10 inch print. Either way, you lose something. It seems to me that Hasselblad should have made their negatives 4.8 x 6.0 cm to fit the 8 x10 inch format. BTW, You could get more exposures per roll that way too. I do have a Hassy but seldom use it.

Regards,

Ed

Manfred - My children think I'm a dinosaur using a screwmount. They think any camera that won't sned text messages and play tunes is a serious error.

Hi John, another Hasselblad shooter here. You may wish to come visit this site run out of Germany if you haven't already:

Camera-info.com - Canon, Nikon, Sony, Minolta, Olympus, Contax, Leica Forum, Photo Gallery, Interviews, Reviews etc. - Home

and go to the forum section, then to Medium Format sub section like:

Topics - Camera-info.com Medium Format Forum

Not quite as active as this forum, but a lot of very good folks there to share info with.

There is a Rollie section also.
