The image powers out of the frame and the sepia toning is just right. Might it be a little too sharp ? Possibly, but given that the intention was not to fully emulate a historic picture but to make a single powerful comment in modern terms, for me that adds to the impact

I've seen these portraits made with old cams and the collodium wetplate technique.

The hardcore photographers today use Petzval-design lenses for the flirring bokeh, but this phantastic portrait might get a slight treatment to come closer to the 'originals'

 

Soften the skin and pronounce only the eyes. Due to the higher sensitivity of this collodium and silver coating for the color blue, the eyes often become very prominent against the skin.

Then you have (nearly) the same result compare to the old chemistry......
