rob_x2004 Posted January 31, 2007 Share #1 Posted January 31, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I never open the back of my M and never look in there. Maybe the weight comes off the pressure plate when I load film, but that is about all, and it is effectively held shut by the way I hold the camera when the base is off. I noticed consistent hair over all the frames on a film and went looking for a culprit. I placed a loupe onto the film rails and was surprised by the amount of fine dust and particles on the back of the curtain and collected on the metalwork. Nothing at all to worry about but I wondered whether people clean their M curtains or insides or vaccum them occasionaly. Kinda seems more important to be aware of than wiping a lens. Following is what got me looking. It is only a lengthways one tenth corner of the scanned neg.

tobey bilek Posted January 31, 2007 Share #2 Posted January 31, 2007 I open the back and inspect the edges after this happened to me one time. A small hair protruded into the pic area.
Lucklik Posted January 31, 2007 Share #3 Posted January 31, 2007 I open the back and inspect the edges after this happened to me one time. A small hair protruded into the pic area. I had exactly the same, I removed the tiny hair and the problem was solved
jhild Posted January 31, 2007 Share #4 Posted January 31, 2007 remember, the back of a M is not dustsafe so it´s a good idea to clean the camera sometimes. But don´t use a vacuum cleaner for that, you could clean the shutterblinds away!!
