barjohn Posted January 30, 2007 Share #23 Â Posted January 30, 2007 I just ordered a 40.5mm 486 from Cambridgeworld.com they said they had a wide selection in stock when I called them. They charge a fortune for overnight but I went ahead. We will see if they deliver. Anyone have any firsthand experience with them? macusque Posted January 30, 2007 Share #26 Â Posted January 30, 2007 Guy, Â let me know if you still need it. I ordered my IR filters (B+W F-PRO) from oege-energy.de and they usually ship very fast within Europe, but maybe not so overseas. Â If you need it fast I can send you mine via UPS and order another one from them.

wattsy Posted January 31, 2007 Share #34 Â Posted January 31, 2007 I ordered my IR filters (B+W F-PRO) from oege-energy.de and they usually ship very fast within Europe, but maybe not so overseas. Â Oege-energy.de took 8 weeks to get a couple of E46 486 filters to me in the UK. I bought them via their eBay listing (in which they had claimed to have 25 or more in stock) only to subsequently learn that they didn't really have any stock and had to wait for supply to come from B+W. If I hadn't been pretty desperate for the filters I'd have politely told Oege-energy where to stick them.
macusque Posted January 31, 2007 Share #35 Â Posted January 31, 2007 8 weeks ? I bought only a couple of times from Oege-energy (at their ebay shop) and they always sent pretty fast in Italy (delivery within 3-4 days). Maybe I was lucky...
robsteve Posted January 31, 2007 Share #36 Â Posted January 31, 2007 Ian: Â I don't think anybody had 46mm 486 filters. When the Canadian B+W distributor ordered the 486 filters in November he told me there was no stock on the 46mm in Germany and they had to be made, with availability either late December or early January. Â I was also looking for 39mm and these were made and came available at the Montreal Leica dealer in December.
wattsy Posted January 31, 2007 Share #37 Â Posted January 31, 2007 Ian:Â I don't think anybody had 46mm 486 filters. Â I realise that - I tried elsewhere during November/December without any luck. I was just pointing out that Oege-energy's eBay listings are not to be trusted in terms of the stock they may claim to have. Oege-energy were true to their word in that the filters were sent very quickly once they had a supply. Their price was also pretty good at around 40 quid including shipping. wparsonsgisnet Posted January 31, 2007 Share #38 Â Posted January 31, 2007 I have noticed in Guy's postings that he is inclined to acquire lenses now and then. Â I suggest that if there is a lens you are thinking of buying that you buy the 486 filter for it, send the filter to Guy, and he'll get the lens and produce some great pix with it so you can see what the lens does. Â What a deal. Â Regards,
photorunner Posted February 1, 2007 Share #39 Â Posted February 1, 2007 I checked adorama's website and they mentioned several types of IR filters. Which type of IR filter is best suited for the M8? Will any IR filter suffice? Do you need the slim type for a wide angle like 21-28mm?
gravastar Posted February 1, 2007 Share #40 Â Posted February 1, 2007 I checked adorama's website and they mentioned several types of IR filters. Which type of IR filter is best suited for the M8? Will any IR filter suffice? Do you need the slim type for a wide angle like 21-28mm? The B+W 486 UV/IR Cut seems to be the filter of choice and Sean Reid has said they appear to be very similar to the ones from Leica that he is evaluating. Â I've used the B+W 486 F-Pro versions on the 21 and 24mm Elmarits without any additional vignetting (except for the color cast in the corners). I did find they made the lens hoods a tight fit. There's two knubs in the hoods that fit into slots at the front of the lens to prevent the hood from turning. The knubs are a tight fit over the filter mount. Â Bob.
